The Young Punx – Mashpop & Punkstep: DnB Mixes

The Young Punx team up with Croatian drum & bass powerhouse Kodin to reimagine tracks from their cult 2009 album Mashpop & Punkstep through a dark DnB lens.

At the centre of the EP is “Like Dat” (feat. Count Bass D) — a tough, neuro-tinged rework that blends heavyweight low-end with occasional Blade Runner-style synth atmospheres. Bronx-born indie-rap legend Count Bass D delivers surreal, coded verses — retelling The Young Punx’s tour stories in a hybrid of Tennessee/Atlanta slang and clipped London RP — over Kodin’s cinematic production.

Also included is Kodin’s reinvention of the ragga-tinged “Juice and Gin”, the remix that first caught The Young Punx’s ear and sparked the whole collaboration. His distinctive sound design and uncompromising grooves push the track into deeper, futuristic territory.

To complete the package, Phonat’s Punkstep Mix of “Ready For The Fight” is included — a rock-meets-drum & bass collision driven by distorted guitars, perfectly reflecting the culture-clash ethos of the original album. Previously released, it’s included here to round out the DnB collection.

Visuals for the release come from Dutch artist Han Hoogerbrugge, whose typographical chaos of lyrics set against pixelated sea creatures and cityscapes offers a uniquely abstract response to the music.

Ghoulish greetings! With spooky season in full swing, Virus aka Neuro Christmas on Saturday looming over us and the @hanzommusic Berlin takeover imminent, I found it most fitting to present you with something that fits this most sinister time of the year: a new Neuro-only mix! Assembled from the cadaver of an old guest mix that didn't come to fruition (not the first time) and the second half of my takeover in Heidelberg in the summer, this macabre mix is perhaps a bit of a Frankenstein's monster, but, if i may self-aggrandize a bit, it is also more wicked than any old west-ward witch, more ghastly than Minecraft's nether monsters, and more hair-raising than even the most static of balloons. Be afraid, be very afraid!
