Vessant is a project focused on psychoacoustic exploration and the deconstruction of rhythms traditionally associated with the Techno genre.

His approach focuses on the naturalness of acts and their self-definition through the context in which they unfold. Just as no one can escape from themselves, decisions are influenced by the contextual framework in which they are made. Finding inspiration in the islands and their personal experiences, which becomes strange in some sense due to the excess and influence of tourism, which affects the cultural identity of those who were born in those islands.

He uses sound elements specific to the islands, such as field recordings from different environments, birdsong, Mediterranean and local rhythms, approaching the tension between natural beauty and commercial exploitation.

Somehow, he tries to create a balance between the natural landscape with the environments that the land offers, along with the chaos now inherent to the Balearic Islands.

Welcome to the second episode of the Lett Records Podcast, and this week I have Nik Feral as guest on the mix...

Its the 21st May, 1982. Opening night of The Hacienda club in Manchester, England. British comedian Bernard Manning stands on a rickety stage and proclaims: "Ive played some shit-holes during my time, but this is really something". Little did he know that this now infamous club would become the throbbing core of the UKs house and techno scene throughout the late 80s and early 90s. By the time Manchester-born house and techno producer Nik Feral began thrilling audiences across Europe with his scalpel-sharp arrangements, The Hacienda was long closed. But that's not to say Feral doesn't have the weight of Manchester's legacy behind him. And with history comes expectation. Expectation that is stoked the minute you are released by UMEKs hallowed 1605 Music Therapy imprint - as happened with Feral back in 2011. It's Feral's ability to seamlessly weave multiple ideas and multiple structures into his arrangements that sets him apart. And he does so without the mix ever sounding too clogged, too cluttered, too claustrophobic. Maybe that's why he is winning increasing support from major players like Richie Hawtin, Nicole Moudaber, Umek, Tocadisco, Carlo Lio and Drumcell.

Nik continues to support those labels who were savvy enough to spot his talent in the early days, now broadens his horizons with working along side Alex Nemec on co productions and set to take the scene by storm, adding weight to his expansion by breaking out with the Primal Nature Alias working along side Steve Owen, Nik is in it for the long run and continues to grow in his sound and nature...Creating a unique style that is one to look out for...

Lett Records Podcast #002 - Nik Feral

Welcome to the 34th Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics.
This monthly released podcast brings you the best and the most diversity Ambient music can offer. This months session is created by Periskop.

Known for his Immerse lp on Kabalion but also for his dark field recordings, sounds and textures this set takes you to a diversity of ancient music and chants of monks with in between a moment of darkness with a touch of light. All combined into a well balanced and harmonic arangement of ambient music.

Bio:

Periskop is a solo music project by Danish electronic music producer Danny Kreutzfeldt. It was started in 2003 as one of many monikers used in the 00s by Danny Kreutzfeldt to release and perform different styles of electronic music. From dark ambient through deep industrial/dubby techno to experimental sound design, speedcore and harshnoise.

About the Mix:

Containing tracks from 1994-2017 and numerous styles of soundscapes, it is hard to pinpoint one single theme of this set other than a certain brooding introspective mood, that always set in, when I end up working on music. Going one step deeper, however, it is possible to talk about several themes within the set. There is the cathartic angle stemming from the development through the set: From the glacial otherworldly isolationist ambient of Seht and Thomas Köner through several stages of textures, experimentation and rhythm to end up in more extreme soundscapes. There is the timelessness of certain soundscapes, that have stayed with me over the years: How old school industrial ambient like Rapoon, Lustmord and (certain material of) Biosphere connects with certain ambient music cultures of today - like output from both the Cryo Chamber and Northern Electronics labels or, indeed, dungeon synth by Hedge Wizard. Or how the early digital soundscapes of the glitch-movement in the early 00’s still sound completely contemporary to my ears. Vladislav Delay, Fennesz, Senking etc. And then there is the perspective, where the set could be seen as some sort of extended electronic ritual in terms of maintaining a certain steady flow throughout several repetitive tracks. Particularly from The Haxan Cloax, several contemporary deep techno acts and others already mentioned. This comes rather subconsciously to me as a DJ, as the ritual/hypnotic aspect is present in almost all the music I enjoy regardless of genre. The set was made in May-June 2017 through several sessions of re-iteration after an initial all-night session, where potential tracks were tried out against each other. I feel it is the best I can do at this point in time in terms of giving a fulfilling immersive inner cinema experience.

The mix has a mixture of influences between Asian landscapes, film noir soundtracks, grass fields by night and audiovisual surfaces of the inner space.

Multicast Dynamics aka Samuel van Dijk delivered this much expected mix to us in the beginning of Spring. This mix took us a long time to listen repeatedly, from the moment it starts to the end, we were deeply indulged in the dreamlike whirls. Such feeling lingers apart from the change of the surrounding, it even strengthens with intense stimulation. His music is rich with levels of creativity, and there are also entrances and exits; it doesn’t lose itself because the change of the environment. After a pause to gather new strenghts, Prior Act is happy to be back with a (long time planned) collab set by Daasnomem: from Karachi, Pakistan where he keeps trying to push this style of techno in a constant effort, the DJ/producer is based in Washington/DC. 

With a background in classical music (piano), he studies sound engineering and hosts parties around DC, he opened for Shifted and SHXCXCHCXSH in the past. Sharing his enthusiasm for the Doors opened by "Sequence" (DC) https://bit.ly/2qziMli, that sheds more light onto the Deep Techno Scene, he started his own collective & podcast Serie called "The Vortex".
