With the release of their 7th album, The Motet once again showcase their commitment to pushing the sonic envelope while remaining dedicated to the musical traditions that have defined their sound. The new self-titled album boldly states that this is the band The Motet has strived to become. The whole has become greater than the sum of its parts with each member of the band contributing to the writing and arranging of the songs, telling a unified story through syncopated rhythms and melodies. The band has also decided to take an analog approach in the making of the album by using tape, tubes and transistors. This gives the music a warm, rich, and organic tone with the crunch and bite of a classic ‘70s funk record.

For this record I first went out to New York to record with some of the daptone records guys to get the main groove Of the tune. Then I had to travel out to Van Nyus to record a children's choir, which was the most nerve racking thing I have done in my entire life! Having a group of 7-11 year olds sing your song is quite the feeling. I then finished up the song with Mike Avery in Chicago. He was one super soulful dude and really captured the golden era funk vibes that I love so much. Overall, this is a song that is a total funk dance party. Enjoy with friends, preferably in a room full of disco balls :)

Say It Loud is an album that took me all around the United States recording sounds from funk jam sessions to children's choirs, trumpet solos in the forest to saxophone lines in the boiler room of my house - it is an album for everyone. In December of 2009, STS9 sat down in one of America’s most pristine modern opera houses on a chilly night in Denver, CO to create the inaugural “Axe The Cables… An Evening of STS9″. What this night encompasses is one of, if not the most flawless STS9 event in the bands decade plus history. The entire show was played, for the most part, sans all “electric” gear including the common stage instrumentation of laptops our fans have grown quite accustomed to. To say the event was a hit is an understatement. It was a night legends are made of. So much so the band has decided to re-cut, re-mix, and re-master this into one massive release.
