Welcome to Season 2 Episode 2 of The Brisbane Drum & B4zzz show! Introducing the second new co-host to join the show Green Eggs & Sam, a local DJ and co-owner of Safe Events.

On tonights show the spotlight is on Aotearoa/New Zealand DNB, starting out with a recent release from 4K local Sal , the latest release from Paige Julia, a tribute to an NZ DNB/Dub pioneer Bulletproof, something to cleanse the palette from UK artist Hyroglifics and final selection is an influential classic from Concord Dawn.  Green Eggs & Sam catches up with Skitzoid for chat on his musical journey and what he has in store for his monthly show and all things Brissy DNB.

To finish the show Sam takes us through his personal flavours in a 1hour mix from melodic vocal liquid, modern and old jungle takes, some gangster halftime and peaking with some minimal techy rollers.

Next one in my If I DJed... mix series was an absolute delight to put together - this is drum and bass, but in 2004.

What a history lesson this was! This was the year of dBridge’s True Romance and China Blue; Calibre’s Drop It Down (RIP Fats), Mr Majestic and Hypnotise, among many, many others; Hospital put out both High Contrast's High Society and Weapons of Mass Creation; Logistics had his first full year of releases (including M.U.S.I.C, which is one of my absolute favourites from this year, fuck you) and you've got artists like DJ Marky, Commix, Break, Total Science and Artificial Intelligence in full swing. Liquid was bright and innocent, and the darker side of dnb furious and uncompromising.  

(I turned 11 this year so that is just my impression of things from the music looking back in 2023 baha, give me this dnb history tho)

Charlie has been mixing DNB for around 30 years now, playing locally in East Anglia before taking some time out from DJing. Now slowly making a return, having made the jump from vinyl to digital, Charlie brings us this awesome mix of rolling jungley vibes. @swagner_music and me had tons of fun playing this set at the wonderful SUB-Topia festival :) It was our first B2B and we were surprised how smoothly it went.

This album was made late. Not metaphorically ... actually late. Most of it came together after midnight, when the city noise drops and everything feels a little sharper through headphones.

AFTER HOURS, NO FILTER sits between cinematic EDM, hybrid trap, and gritty Y2K bass. Heavy low end, distorted textures, glitchy transitions, and builds that feel more like scenes than songs. Some tracks hit hard, some just sit in the background and breathe, but they all live in that same late-night headspace.

It’s music for night drives, gaming sessions, gym headphones, editing at 2AM, or just zoning out with the lights off. Not polished, not overly clean, and not chasing trends just bass-forward, atmospheric, and intentionally rough around the edges.

If you’re into dark electronic music, cinematic bass, underground EDM, hybrid trap, or Y2K-inspired sound design, this project lands right there. Turn it up, let it run, don’t overthink it.
