Buildin' a future, forgettin' de past.
Spreadsheet a-sing, reports dem a-gleam,
Livin' de promise, de corporate dream.
Intelligence sharp like a brand new Gillette,
But de razor of politics... mi never met it yet.
De whispers start, like a snake in de grass,
In de canteen line, as de big-wigs pass.
A sideways glance, a smirk, a closed door,
Mi ideas gettin' lost on de polished floor.
De work is still good, de figures still right,
But a shadow fall in de fluorescent light.

Politicians with strange accents and a helping hand...

They see an obstacle, a remnant, a guilt.
My history, my face, my story... an old design,
That don't fit the new logo, the new bottom line.

De DG, him is just de puppet on de string,
Makin' mi life a living, breathing, hellish thing.

Want mi fe sign de paper, and just admit...
Defeat.
Say "I wasn't good enough," say "I couldn't last."
