Coldplay - Midnight

On a mission to bring smiles and an element of surprise back to the dance floor, Berlin imprint Arms & Legs continues to build on it's solid foundation of quality releases featuring an eclectic mix of deep grooves, blissful melodies, throbbing bass lines and some good ol funk. Now in it's third year, the label is set to release 'Motion's Twelve' it's first album compilation of all exclusive new material. The 12-track release showcases a breadth of new and established talent from their stable, including the likes of Sascha Braemer, Hugo, Harry Axt and Kristin Velvet to newcomers such as Sqim, Matthew K and Le Hot Club. Label heads Daniel Steinberg and Nils Ohrmann also make an appearance, pitching in a shimmering tech house bouncer and deep rolling house cut respectively. The unmixed compilation will be available digitally November 2014.

Death is too heavy. So with that, we’ll play the ignorance card and pretend we don’t know what pushing daisies means. Which brings up a funny story. You see, not long ago, The Bearded Man found himself in a bit of a spot. He was at his beachfront house in Hawai’i, when for the first time ever, he spotted his neighbor. His other neighbor was Steve Jobs (may he rest in peace), but this guy was new. He looked like Doc from Back to the Future, and he invited The Bearded Man into his home. There, he showed him what he was working on — ultra intelligent robots imbued with AI and an a$$ that just won’t quit. Code name for the project? Daisy. It wasn’t clear to The Bearded Man whether this mad scientist was creating these robots for purposes other than pure sensual pleasure, but what was clear was that there was still a long way to go. For example, each Daisy had a nasty habit of just shutting down randomly at the worst possible time. Daisy is trying to chop down a misguided tree with a chainsaw? Boom, shut down. Chainsaw goes flying, nearly decapitating several people. Daisy is trying to light a bonfire? Uh oh. Shut down again. Gasoline and sparks everywhere. No good. After a week of seeing how robot servants would treat him (before the singularity and the inevitable doom of all mankind), The Bearded Man found himself with deactivated robots strewn all over his property like casualties from some horrific war. Terrified by the thought of it, The Bearded Man grabbed the keys to his trusty bulldozer, and started rounding up the robot femmes and getting them back to his neighbor’s property. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the story of something something pushing daisies, you get the idea.

Keeno’s back with a grand gesture. Succeeding his outstanding debut album, “Life Cycle”, the “Futurist” LP soars through sixteen tracks with boundless finesse.

Keeno thrives with his cinematic and orchestral offshoots of drum & bass, silken smooth soundscapes and deep weighty bass.

Opening track “Faithless” sets the scene with elegant and epic string sections jumping into a playful arrangement. With serious drum-work in place vocal talents Oscar Corney, MC Fava and Alice Gasson bring tracks “Lifeline”, “Perspective” and “A Breath” to life with tight harmonies and rich, velvet tones. Keeno hasn’t held back in “Dream Sequence”, “At Twilight” and “Futurism” with majestic grandeur travelling seamlessly through star-lit journeys of sound and space.

The growth and musical virtuosity of this young talent has flourished since signing to Med School back in 2013. By uniting his high-end production skills and classical training in a multitude of instruments Keeno has quenched the thirst of drum & bass lovers across the globe.

Last year Keeno took a leap of faith, deciding to leave his full time education behind to set his sights on what is sure to be a long career ahead in music. It’s abundantly clear this was the right choice - “Futurist” embodies everything we’ve come to expect from this exceptionally talented young producer.

In April of 2008, we at Sub Pop Records had the good fortune to release the US version of Antidotes, the debut album by Oxford, UK quintet Foals. Antidotes was a special album. Two years on from that impressive introduction, a choice has been made–-rather than contort Antidotes’ lithesome guitars into ever more elaborate patterns, Total Life Forever is the sound of a band settling into and surveying the decay of old protocols. With this new album, Foals strip their sound back and turn themselves inside out searching for that invisible human thing. The result is an album as persuasive emotionally as Antidotes  was physically. Whereas that album constantly reinforced its own presence by filling the air with yelping and polyrhythm, tracks on Total Life Forever such as disarming opener “Blue Blood,” “2 Trees” and the astonishing “Black Gold” are happier to leave gaps for the listener to explore in mind’s ear and eye. Written primarily in the basement of their Oxford HQ (“The House of Supreme Mathematics”) and recorded in Gothenburg with former Clor man Luke Smith, Total Life Forever finds Foals singing rather than shouting, emotional as well as functional. The band’s soul-search reveals new antidotes found in infinite, internal spaces rather than carved violently upon the air–-Total Life Forever feels more the work of artists than artisans. It’s a triumph that they’ve managed to remain a band of progress and propulsion while investigating that vast, dark space lurking inside themselves-–that gap between ribs where “nature, or god or whatever you wanna call it, will come in.”
