This new album "afterlife" is a continuation of the previous work "Summer Dream". 
The title does not refer to the afterlife or any spiritual way… 
focusing to bring our attention more strongly to the present, the present that we are living in now. this is a paradoxical phrase to use. 
The soundscape is nostalgic with beats and beatless reflections of various emotions. I hope you will immerse yourself in the ambient world that seems to reflect various emotions.

2012年に17歳でリリースした初アルバム「premature moon and the shooting star」をきっかけに、Big Beach Festival’13やUltra Japan’2014、2016、WIRED CLASHなど数々の大舞台に登場。Wombの15周年パーティにはメインステージにて出演。今年9月にはNHKラジオ第一の13時台からの帯番組、ごごラジ！にも出演。NHKの通例では考えられないスペシャルな企画となり反響を呼んだ。森高千里をフィーチャーしたトラック「Foetus Traum」や「Tokyo Techno Drive (SEKITOVA Remix)」「BAD GIRL (SEKITOVA & TAAR Remix)」など楽曲制作も好調、すでにシーンにおいてかかせないパーツの1人となっている。

-こちらのミックスはどちらで収録したものですか？

最初の半分は大阪の自宅で、残り半分は東京を転々としてるうちにゆっくりアイデアが湧いてきて、最後にステイしてる友達の家で一気につくりました。

-コンセプトがあれば教えてください。

せっかくのPodcastなので、週末の現場とはまた違うフィーリングでつくりました。「地球に不時着したなにかが渋々地球で暮らしたり旅をするうちに地球のことも好きになりつつ、それ以上に自分の住む星が恋しくなって、夜な夜な壊れた宇宙船を見ながらホームシックを募らせていたところに、地球で出会った友人が協力して宇宙船を治して、彼をもう一度宇宙に帰す」みたいな、E.T.に近いストーリーで、人間視点ではなくE.T.側の視点で進んでいきます。「E.T.」を「人間」に入れ替えて、ある1人の人間の誕生から成長、そして思春期を越えて大人になるまでの話も想像しました。そういった空想に対するサウンドトラックです。このパブリックなPodcastを頼まれたのと同じくらいの時期に、自分のおじいちゃんの為に曲をセレクトする用に頼まれていたので、そのためのパーソナルなmixでもあります。それもあって普段は自分の中のストーリーを表現の上ではあえて曖昧にしていますが、今回はある程度具体的に表に出してみました。


-最近の活動を教えてください。

森高千里さんをゲストに向かえ、寺田創一さんとスプリットでつくった「Hyamikao / Foetus Traum EP」がレコードとデータでリリースされ、レコードは確認できる所では完売、データはWasabeat限定で発売中です。

Meitei’s 2018 album Kwaidan was one of the year’s slow-burning successes. Originally released on cassette through Evening Chants, Kwaidan’s reputation eventually grew to such an extent that it was named one of the year’s best experimental albums by Pitchfork. To coincide with the first time vinyl release of Kwaidan, we have a mix from Meitei to share with you for Bleep Mix #81.

Meitei says - ’This mix is based on some old Japanese music that I have picked with the current Meitei theme of the “lost Japanese mood” as a reference. I remixed and edited the traditional music in my own style. 

There are places in Japan where the scenery expressed in this mix still survives. What will they look like in the new Japanese era “Reiwa”? At least I think it’s interesting to personally edit the footprints of the previous era to make such a mix. This made it possible to touch a world that I don’t even know.’

Chee Shimizu

ジャンルを超越し即興性とストーリー性溢れるフリーフォームなプレイ・スタイルで活動するDJ。選曲家、文筆家、プロデューサー、レコード・ショップ／レコード・レーベル主宰など、音楽旅先案内人としても多彩な仕事を手がけ、リミックス／リエディット・ワークも多数。昨今は即興音楽家とのライブ・セッションにも積極的に取り組んでおり、アメリカのESP InstituteからChee Shimizu + miku-mari名義でのアルバムがまもなくリリースされるほか、海外アーティストへのリミックス提供も控えている。最新著書に『OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITOIN』(リットーミュージック)。

Chee Shimizu is the DJ with a free-form style that spanning genres, full of improvisation and storytelling. Shimizu is also compiler, writer, producer, record shop/record label owner, and other diverse work as a musical travel guide, with many remixes/re-edits. Recently, he has been actively engaged in live sessions with improvised musicians, and the album under the name Chee Shimizu + miku-mari will be released soon from the U.S.'s ESP Institute, and he is also preparing to provide remixes for international artists. His latest book as author is "OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITOIN" (Ritto Music).
