Regular readers of LV will know that we are huge fans of Edinburgh based label Athens of the North (@djfryer) which regularly pops up both on the site and in LV mixes. 

It's a real diggers paradise with label boss Euan Fryer regularly unearthing long forgotten gems and giving them a second run at life as well as working with some hugely talented artists to create new and quite often stunning tracks.

Their latest release see's them working with Bright and Findlay, aka Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay and James Alexander Bright, to release their album ‘Everything Is Slow’ LP on 9th June.

Ahead of that they have this single NY Disco (Smile) landing on the 31st March which absolutely does everything that it says on the tin. This is definitely one for lovers of Metro area (and who isn't?) with it's soulful take on electro disco, fusing the warmth of RnB and Boogiewith the grace of early New York Deep house.

As a forerunner to the album this is a hugely exciting prospect and we are waiting patiently by our digital inbox for the full album to land.

@thediscoexpress keep up their monster last 12 months with a brilliant new EP from Swiss producer @Generoco. Featuring four tracks of seriously funky disco inspired house it touches on everything from diva vocals to jazzy flourishes and is packed with enough groove to lock in dancefloors all over the globe. It's another proper quality release from the label.

Our premier today is the sax groove monster The Express, a suitably titled jam for the label. Featuring an energetic fusion of ass shakin' bass, smokey sax lines, key stabs and a funky as hell 70's inspired lead synth line it's got changes aplenty to power keep the dancefloor enthralled.

@localtalk are back with the much anticipated Part 2 of their 13 Years Later comp and as per Part 1 it is overflowing with some of the finest talent out there.

Our premier today from the compilation comes from Wipe The Needle. Their track Light Years Away is an absolute monster, all swirling synths, hook laden chants, subtle and chunky speaker-shaking drums. What a way to open the album.

NYC house royalty Barbara Tucker and Parisian production sensation Sam Karlson team up for a mega collab on The Disco Express.

Renowned for iconic tracks 'Beautiful People' and 'I Get Lifted', Barbara Tucker has had six No.1 hits on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart in the 1990s and into the 2000s. Flash forward to 2022, and Barbara Tucker pulls out the stops yet again with another soulful house belter Miracles EP. Together in Paris with Sam Karlson, she recorded 'Miracles' and 'Be Yourself'. The former being inspired by the lyrics to 'Elvis Presley's, 'If I Can Dream'.

Having released on Big Love (Defected Records), Robsoul and Hypnotic, Sam Karlson is known for his signature disco / funky / gospel house sound.
