Growing up a classical pianist, he decided to home-school himself into the realms of jazz, funk, and blues to become aligned with his musical taste today.

The influence of his deep love for the jazz-funk days of the 70s shines on through, in this bluesy slow-groover.

Epitomising the very best of their hometown's unparalleled musical heritage, Detroit's Dames Brown are the vocal trio you may not yet know by name but are sure to know by voice. Lending their exquisite range to a number of modern house essentials, including Sophie Lloyd's 'Calling Out', The Vision featuring Andreya Triana 'Heaven' and David Penn's 'Nobody' in recent years, Athena Johnson, Teresa Marbury and LaRae Starr released 'What Would You Do?' in 2021 to critical acclaim. Produced by long-time collaborator of the group and fellow Motor City native Amp Fiddler and Mahogani Music regular Andrés, now Lyon house superstar Folamour steps up to remix this slick, funk-filled cut. Lending his signature groove to the release, lush synth notes, electric bass licks and live instrumentation give 'What Would You Do?' another lease of life for informed selectors.

NYC leftfield disco darlings Phenomenal Handclap Band made their first appearance on RNT by way of a collab with JKriv in 2022, and now they return for an offering all their own, the Burning Bridges EP. The title track juxtaposes riffy guitar driven funk with plaintive vocals that smack of 1970s Heart in the best way, and Prins Thomas turns the tempo knob up a few clicks and launches into an extended interstellar  excursion with his remix. On the B side the cinematic slow burner ‘It Was The Summer’ begins sparse and hazy and builds to driving peak of backbeat rhythm and an insistent vocal soliloquy. Each Other (Justin Strauss & Max Pask) then take the tune straight the rave with arpeggiated and acidic synths, recasting the haunting vocals as a modern New Wave anthem.

Growing up a classical pianist, Generoco increasingly gravitated towards the realms of jazz, funk, and blues to become aligned with his musical taste today.

The influence of his deep love for the jazz-funk and disco instrumentals of the 70s shines on through on his first original EP, with deep and funky driven basslines, bluesy keys, emotional strings, and swinging percussion.

Accompanied by stellar vocals from Karmina Dai and passionate saxophone player WayneOnSax, the EP is an ode to the fusion of modern day house music and the harmonies of indulgent 70s instrumentalism. The icing on the cake is the oh-so groovy remix of “In The Music” by Hotmood, which re-interprets the track in a brilliant way.

His sound draws inspiration from his adoration for bedrock arrangers such as Gamble & Huff, Norman Whitfield and Randy Muller, as well as modern day producers like Hotmood and LTJ Xperience.

Canadian label Breathing Room Records is back with their third digital release after a lengthy pandemic-related hiatus. A little over two years after their previous outing, they are happy to introduce Tropica, a duo from Newcastle, UK. Forest Floor is their debut EP and it includes three original tracks as well as a remix from Toronto-based producer and DJ, Ciel. This is the first remix in Breathing Room’s catalogue.

All three originals are slow and chuggy. Monstera Deliciosa, the opening track, is driven by warm chords and a wobbly synth line while a siren-esque pad weaves in and out. Birds of Paradise continues on a similar wavelength but dives a little further into acid territory with its lead and stays true to its name with different birds contributing to the overall ambience. Devil’s Ivy is a little darker in tone with it’s delayed pads, a didgeridoo and haunting scream-like samples permeating throughout. Ciel’s take on Monstera Deliciosa stays true to the original but introduces a juxtaposing, almost playful lead and tougher percussion, giving the track a faster, bouncier feel.
