This podcast episode explores the question of how participatory practices of EDM raves mediate spiritual experience. It investigates EDM as a multisensory medium that functions as a modern-day alternative to sacred rituals, utilising the case study of "Before/After Ceremony,"  an Amsterdam-based EDM event described as “a ceremonial journey exploring spirituality through the mythology of the and transitional moments inspired by Kemetic yoga and Afrofuturism.” 
The discussion begins with Iulia’s thought that spirituality, to her, is associated with the dance floor. Vasilisa Ananeva, a Master's student in the Art and Performance Research programme at the University of Amsterdam, joins the conversation with an initial reflection. The hosts reflect and analyse the topic using Stuart Hall’s 'Encoding/Decoding' framework and ideas from "Ecstatic Encounters," a book by Anthropologist Mattijs van de Port. 

In an additional general note, the episode is meant to adopt a case within the umbrella themes of 'secularisation' and 'universalisation of art.' Building on van de Port’s work, it briefly aims to illustrate a bridge between a 'modern-day youth practice' and 'contemporary religious practices' influenced by the age of reformation in Western enlightenment through emphasising the notion of 'Baroque aesthetics' as discussed in “Ecstatic Encounters”.
