Barış Ergün, after making his entrance into experimental electronic music scene with his debut album ‘Modern Paralysis’ (2018), releases his 2nd studio album named ‘Impaired Singularity’ via Shalgam Records. Depicting a way of transforming from entropy into negentropy, the album consists of 7 tracks that attract attention with their holistic concept, dark and bold sound textures.Barış, who is the producer of the album himself, collaborates with James Ginzburg for mastering process, whom we know as the founder of Subtext Records and Emptyset. 

The thoughts of Barış about his album are as follows: Impaired Singularity is not just an effort for creating melodies or soundscapes but a result of the chaos and the elimination that I’ve tried to reveal by digging into the ways and effects of thinking upon life and living itself as an individual. I was in Istanbul, Kadıköy when I first started spreading seeds of the album. I thought there happening was a sound universe that was much more inclusive and capable of touching various emotional states at different extremes. "disembodied: a compilation" is a collection of my works from 2018 up to the present. I've explored various processes in my craft since 2012, leaning towards experimental electronic music by means of genres such as: pop, heavy metal, folk, post-rock, no-wave, ambient, hip-hop, etc.; and rave culture as well.

This has guided me in developing a sonic vocabulary which helps me to express and interact in our material world, much like different textures of sound and how they interact with each other. Boundaries are now blurred to me as I relate this knowledge to different fields, I believe music helps us transcend by bringing us to a flow state. Although, as things in the world evolve and unfold into complexity, I sometimes can't help but be silent & just listen.

The old world is collapsing—its structures fading, its borders dissolving. We are no longer just witnessing change; we are inside it, moving through the wreckage of what was and into the chaotic birth of what’s next. A new world is emerging in real time.

As everything shifts, we turn to sound—digging through the Vol. 4 submission folders, gathering fragments of memory, rhythm, and resistance to make sense of the moment. VOL. 2 is loading.

This is music for uncertain times—where irony meets feeling, nostalgia collides with speed, and the African side of things reminds us that rhythm has always been a force of survival and liberation. Polyrhythms spiral like broken timelines, edits twist the past into something unrecognizable, and bass shakes the ground beneath us.

But through all the chaos, one truth remains: we are one. Across continents and sounds, across generations and struggles, we move together. And in the end, freedom will win.
