Mon Rivera
Mon Rivera (Puerto Rico, 1925–1978) was a trombonist, singer, and arranger who left a lasting mark on Afro-Caribbean music. Known as the “king of the plena,” he reshaped the sound of the genre by introducing full trombone sections, giving salsa and plena a deeper, more resonant identity. His work stands as a bridge between tradition and innovation, keeping the roots alive while expanding their reach to new generations.

“Lluvia con Nieve,” released in 1961 on the album Que Gente Averiguá, is one of Mon Rivera’s defining songs.
