Bicycles In Paris

Following the 50 year anniversary of The Beatles’ 1963 album “Please, Please Me” I got thinking about how outstandingly successful the album was.

Please, Please Me made history for being recorded in just 1 day and now 50 years on, the record has still never been beaten. This got me wondering whether the fact that it was recorded on a 2-track BTR tape recording machine (meaning that they didn’t have the technology to mess around with sound effects or overdubs) gave it more of a raw sound? Does recording with the modern, 24-track, digital equipment take away that human element that the original, analogue recording equipment preserved?

Forty Winks

Finally managed to put my vintage Bontempi chord organ to use. You can hear it proudly humming along on this new track.

For a nice simple song like this, it's actually had me tearing my hair out the past few days. With so many instruments overcrowding the reflective tone of the song, I've removed a lot of what was originally recorded and this is it now actually at its most "stripped back".

I'm also open to suggestions for a new title.

This week's lockdown jam features Eric Brock on lead vocal covering one of the softer tracks of T. Rex's mammoth "Electric Warrior" album. Let us take you back to 1971 where the end of Beatlemania opened a gap in the market for starry eyed swooning teens, lusting over the new popular sounds of glam rock, courtesy of acts such as David Bowie, Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Slade and Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Another skitty bedroom tune featuring some crudely played honky tonk piano and ridiculous lyrics. Imagine drunk Paul McCartney bouncing about in an old Western flick with this as the soundtrack.
