Lullabies for Falling Empires was founded in Seattle in 2009 by Richard Webb, Carlos Esparza and Lilian Sullam. The band’s orchestral post-rock compositions soon grew to include as many as 13 performers, including live video projections. The band recorded their first orchestral post-rock album in a huge wooden barn with the help of Jherek Bischoff (Angel Olsen, Paranthetical Girls, The Dead Science) and Rob Kunz.

After a move to New York City the core trio began working with Brent Arnold on cello, and went to record in Iceland at Sundlaugin studios (of Sigur Rós and The Album Leaf fame). There they worked with long-time percussion collaborator John Delp and new friend / engineer Birgir Jón "Biggi" Birgisson (!).

Playing around NYC and the northeast the band developed a small but loyal following before taking a hiatus in 2018.

2020, marking the bands 11th anniversary, takes the band continuing to explore new areas of neo-classical and ambient electronica.
