Within the maze-like passageways of the organization’s most secure facility lay a block of cells custom forged to contain the eldritch powers of their aberrant inhabitants. Some bore robust electrokinetic plating on their walls to prevent their inhabitants from simply phasing through their containment, whilst others opted for amplified versions of more traditional carceral methodology, locking their subjects behind foot-thick doors of depleted uranium and litany of layered locks to keep the horrors that resided within them at bay. Amidst this labyrinth, one cell alone seemed strangely conventional, but behind its bars lay an anomalous being more sinister than any with which it shared this ward.

On a purely physical consideration, the subject was by the hallmark of its species, a towering ursine figure that rippled with musculature developed by its myriad successful hunts. Tooth and claw were honed to perfection for that self-same savage purpose, and even the beast’s oaken fur seemed to be sharpened by the bear’s pure predatory instinct. Yet the creature was not the only inhabitant of its cell, as coursing through its veins was another organism of lesser stature but perhaps greater danger. Its viral influence had overtaken the beast’s brain, and in exchange, it had tripled the creature’s strength and imbued it with unending ravenous hunger. That selfsame virus now lay within the acrid saliva that dripped from the subject’s jaws, and posed a threat far greater than that of the simple mauling that its host could well deliver. For once its host had finished with its prey, the virus would reconstitute their remains under its own control, adding another hungry mouth to the ravenous swarm it sought to grow. As each took another life, the virus’s influence would only grow, until it had the entire world ENSNARED under it singular influence.

With ENSNARED, AKOV returns triumphantly to EATBRAIN with his latest selection of infectious Neurofunk sonics, which are set to whip the label’s horde into a frenzy on the basis of their pure primal power. Within, AKOV’s signature twisted basslines are applied to rapid percussive sequences amidst a variety of texture pads for the creation of four tracks guaranteed to rend their way into the ears of unsuspecting listeners.

The mass of supplicants prostrated just beyond its twisted paws, their pathetic mewling pleasantly caressing the towering feline fiend’s ears as they expressed their divine agony. Drinking up the delicious earmilk of their pain, it reclined languidly in its glorious pedestal; a mass of flesh and sinews with the fine carved bones from the countless many condemned to this realm of eternal torment. Its three eyes rolled apathetically to fall upon one particular beggar, drained of almost all remaining life from her years pennance, spent at the foot of the infernal throne, worshipping the glory of pain in all its truth and crying for salvation. The utter futility of this endeavor suddenly dawned on the great cat, as the constancy of myriad calls made for escape fell upon his ears at once. Suddenly annoyed by this ever-present sound, he reached out, spearing the pathetic being before him with a claw and flinging her from into rock and into the depths of the molten river below. His eyes watched her form ignite and fade in the heat, her soul joining others to be swept into its current on a journey to be reborn as pitiful lesser devils elsewhere in the plane. How benevolent an act, the cat thought to itself, freeing the pitiful creature from her suffering for a brief moment and more even - giving her the opportunity of such an esteemed metamorphosis. Even though the pathetic fiend she would be reborn as would hold not even a candle to his own magnificence, it would still be a marked improvement against the limits of her prior flesh. Sated by his own thoughts, he leaned forward once, rotating his vast ears to better drink in the fresh desperate energy of the remaining supplicants. Its hideous mouth opened to a wide, sharp smile, revealing cruelly serrated fangs that shone unnaturally with a umbral hue. “A reward for my benevolence,” he thought as he plucked the nearest wretch from the rock with a single talon, his pupils sharpening with focussed malevolence as he tossed them into his fur-lined maw. Satisfied, his hunger temporarily sated, there was but one thing left to do. He would take a nap.

The ZOMBIE CATS return to the label that set the fire on their ferocious project back in 2014, placing them on a fierce trajectory of furiously kinetic releases that have brought them to the present, their most pointed assault on the eardrums yet with the WORLD’S END EP on EATBRAIN. With the title track tearing out of the mouth of hell with slower bpm but highly charged energy, further establishing the newly forming neurowave genre, the cats make a bold statement from the outset. Also featuring 2 intense collaborations with masters of their art ABIS and MALUX, alongside 3 further astounding intensely fresh solo cuts, the WORLD’S END EP is a welcome return for one of tech dnb’s most respected duo’s, on one of the genres most consistent labels. Anyone who’s been paying attention in the last six months will know that Ram Records is having yet another incredible year. A worldwide dance music institution, Andy C and Scott Bourne’s record label has gone from strength to strength, having nurtured a plethora of the bass music scene’s most exciting artists over the last two decades.

One such artist is Culture Shock. A Ram Records star since his debut release in 2006, this incredible producer has collaborated with Sub Focus and Brookes Brothers and remixed Nero’s ‘Guilt’ and Netsky’s brand new single ‘Come Alive’ into veritable drum & bass anthems. Here Culture Shock follows up last year’s ‘Protection’ with another stunning single that’s sure to please fans of his unique style. ‘I Remember’ is progressive dance floor drum & bass at its finest. Gradually building and growing, pulling you in gently and never letting go, this track is the perfect balance of beautiful musicality and effortless, uninhibited energy. Meanwhile ‘Troglodyte’ demonstrates Culture Shock’s deeper and darker side perfectly. Rolling and bouncing along with a squelching bassline and chopped up vocal snippets this Caveman style skull smasher threatens to bash anything in its path with an immense bassline club, expertly crafted for maximum floor-shaking damage.
