This piece was written to be performed at all 5 of the 2012 graduation ceremonies of York St John University. It welcomed the university faculty members, the students, their families and friends and also the honorary degree recipients (notably the Arch bishop Desmond Tutu) to the historic surroundings of York minster, before the commencement of the degree awards took place.  

The piece is written for a brass quintet of 2 trumpets, french horn, trombone and tuba. Unfortunately the recordings were lost.

'Those Days' was written as part of my MA in Music Composition, for baritone Jeremy Huw Williams to perform in a workshop at the Unitarian Chapel, in York, UK. He liked the piece so much, he included it in his programme at a concert the very next day. 

The words were provided by Kathryn Halliday, a fellow student at York St John university.

Liam Walsh is a 26 year old composer from Manchester, England.

Liam received his Masters Degree in Music Composition from York St John University in November 2012, graduating with a special award to provide the opening fanfare for all 5 of the universities graduation ceremonies. 

Liam's compositional style is still very much in development, but his main musical influences (Pärt, Tavener, Whitacre, Lauridsen & Glass) are often clear to see.

On the 7th. April 2012, Baritone Jeremy Huw Williams gave the first performance of his song "Those Days" at the Unitarian Chapel, York, as part of the 'Late Music Festival'.

On the 21st. September 2012, The Vox Aurum Chamber Choir gave the first performance of his 'Madrigali' song cycle for A cappella Choir at the York St John University chapel.

'Fanfare for York St John' for brass quintet and timpani, was performed at 5 graduation ceremonies of York St John University, over 3 days (14/15/16th November 2012) to welcome parents, staff, students and honorary degree recipients (one of which was Archbishop Desmond Tutu) into York Minster for each ceremony.
