One of Viper’s most well-loved compilations is returning for the first time since 2018: The Sound of Drum & Bass 2021. Curated by Futurebound, the compilation features a plethora of the best & brightest new Drum & Bass in the game, sharing a name with the popular Spotify playlist that shines a spotlight on the best new music each week. This year’s compilation features 10 brand new exclusives plus a selection of favourites from the past year, all leading to an unmissable album release. In classic Viper fashion, new exclusives from the hottest up-and-comers sit alongside the year’s biggest releases from scene veterans Matrix & Futurebound, Cyantific, Rene LaVice, Grafix, Koven, Ekko & Sidetrack , Ruth Royall and more. Plus, with early samplers from BLVCK CROWZ, Futurebound & BMotion, Tall Order, SOL, Phonetic & CydeFX, the bar could not have been set higher before the full release of the year’s biggest compilation: The Sound of Drum & Bass 2021, only on Viper.

Samplers like “Jungle Demon” from BLVCK CROWZ delivered a menacing underground weapon, while Futurebound & BMotion’s “Slap Suey” is the vibrant, electrifying dancefloor rave anthem of the summer. New names Tall Order & Phonetic both delivered mighty first impressions after being discovered by Futurebound, the album also shines a spotlight on the mysterious CydeFX with the infectious jump-up number “Soul” that is sure to be a hit on the club circuit, and newest signing SOL gave us a heartfelt taste of what to expect from the rest of the LP.

And as if those first few samplers weren’t enough, the full compilation offers even more never before heard exclusives from the worldwide Viper family. Bugwell returns to Viper with “Power Out”, a murky yet groovy stomper with impressive intricacy, while The Voss gives us a hefty dose of USDNB with the hair-raising “Must Love Dags” alongside the equally infectious “Need My Love” from Simon Splice. Last but not least, the compilation features a new record from Tengu & Maddy V, featured on Episode 005 of Viper Radio, “Underneath The Shadows”.

Nowhere else would you find a compilation that stacks some of the scene’s most well-loved veterans against so much new talent, but that’s exactly what’s made Viper standout over the years. Continuing to prove their industry-leading scouting abilities, Korean drum and bass label Confucian Sound have enlisted in brand-new signee Vosko for their next release, the gritty two-tracker “Mononofu”.

Having cemented his reputation with a string of releases on acclaimed labels including Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s Technique Recordings, Canada’s DoYu Digital, American imprint Abducted LTD and the Czech Republic’s Empire Recordings, the Italian DJ/producer has already exhibited a decidedly international outlook since emerging on the scene a few years ago.

“Mononofu” serves as the third release this year from the Rome-based innovator, leaning into his signature style of jagged, yet minimal techstep creations. The release’s title track opens with syncopated breakbeats and mechanical whirs, building up to crunchy crescendos anchored on distorted basslines, shuffling percussion and echoing vocal cuts. Its counterpart, “You Hear Me”, is comparatively atmospheric, and finds tense, swelling noise colliding with muted synth plucks before launching into quaking drops punctuated by oscillating sub-bass.

“Mononofu” lands 26 November exclusively via Beatport and Spotify before hitting a full range of digital service providers a fortnight later on 2021.

Wir haben euch heute mitgebracht: Volume 8! Und auch bei der achten Ausgabe der UTM-EP greifen wir auf die bewährte Mischung aus debütierenden Artists und Wiederholungstätern zurück. Den Einstand machen die spanischen Toreros Dub Elements, welche bei ihrem Track „Nasty“ die Fetisch-Peitsche auspacken und einen hektischen Disco-Slammer im Gewand von oldskooligem Rave-Sound der frühen 90er durch den Darkroom ziehen. Etwa zwei Stunden weiter südlich befindet sich das Überseegebiet Gibraltar – und wenn etwas in britischer Hand ist, dann darf Drum and Bass einfach nicht weit sein. Seinen Einstand gibt Vulgarythm für uns mit „Gainok“, einem pulsierenden Schraubendreher, der einfach immer fester zieht und im zweiten Drop noch mal extra mit dem Griff nachklopft. Mit Scartip landen wir nun endgültig in der Heimat des DnB. „Packet Melange“ ist sein zweiter Track für uns und läuft wie ein Uhrwerk. Zwischen Drums, Percussion und Synths passt kein Feigenblatt. Für diesen Groover ist alles punktgenau einprogrammiert. On point ist ebenso der Track „Red Dusk“ (UTM-Anthem), welcher aus der Symbiose von CZ’s finest Taby, zusammen mit Monch MC entstand. Er schiebt im Bassface-Modus voran und Monchs Bars machen daraus eine brandgefährliche Waffe. Das noch strammere Programm kommt vom produktiven Clusta, der mit „Cave Of Evil“ hier einen seiner dicksten Bretter gebohrt hat. Die Bassline zieht herein mit großem Donnerwetter. Unsere Berliner Jungs Tarma & Magmot sind diesmal auch ein ganzes Stück progressiver unterwegs. „In The Caves“ ist eine klassische Skankout-Nummer, prädestiniert für den Dancefloor. Abgerundet wird die Volume 8 durch Neuling Low Performance. „Encounters“ steppt und rollt gleichzeitig mit fräsenden Basslines und reverbed Background-Sounds. Der Monlog wurde übrigens von einem native speaker eingesprochen!
