We've been gifted this lovely podcast from one of our stateside friends, namely the prolific beat maker extraordinaire @florafm who has seen a number of wicked releases on some of our favourite labels including Planet Euphorique and Kalahari Oyster Cult. He's turned in just over an hour of soulful electronic music that ranges from bumpy house to kaleidoscopic broken techno tracks. Here's what Taylor had to say about the mix: 

"This one's an introverted mix for alone-time on the bus, the plane or the train. As the days get shorter and the sun is obscured, I often find myself lost in thought about what what could have been and what's coming next. These tracks are all long players with delicate, beautiful journeys of their own, meant to soundtrack those solo journeys of life."

@maxwatts is a DJ and producer from Tennessee who's self released EP's Subliminal Self and Primal Spirit caught our eye when recommended by Discwomans Akua. With two killer tracks on MoMa Ready & AceMo's @haus_of_altr Compilations 10&11, a track on BANK Records NYC 'Don't Turn Your Back On Love' compilation and his first vinyl release of on his co-ran label Limited Network, Watts is a talented artist and one to keep an eye on! This mix is hot, hard and groovey and arrived just in time for the weekend, enjoy!

"This set is the first of a series covering piracy and sample culture that will run for a few more months. With Brazil as one of the world's largest centers for consumption and reproduction of pirated material, the idea is to observe the musical identity in emerging countries in the digital age and its results. From this perspective, I proposed a process experience and created a session exploring sampling techniques using a MPC 1000. The sampled material was an excerpt from the qualifiers of a 2008 MPC World Championship available on Youtube, which was cut and reconfigured several times and played together with live beats. The idea was to have a lean sound palette to arrive in new timbres from these looped and manipulated sound cuts in different stretch, tone change, trigger and played in finger drumming, which is very characteristic of MPC sessions. The result is a drum solo of unquantified beats and textures with pedals."

Octonomy is the moniker of Heidi Lorenz, a Brooklyn-based sound artist. Octonomy spans multiple genres; harsh noise to darkwave to industrial and techno. She uses found sounds, field recordings, voice, power tools, samples, noise, reverb and distortion sequenced through hardware synthesizers to create pulsing, rhythmic soundscapes. Her DJ sets tend to be high-energy, harsh and punishing. Thematically, her work delves into themes of occultism, anti-religion & anti-capitalism.

In addition to her sound design, songwriting and DJ work as Octonomy, she has done a number of commissioned sound pieces and longform ambient compositions for experiential spaces, performances and immersive installations, and has incorporated her soundscapes by way of utilizing various different responsive software and hardware-based technologies.
