This week we are joined by Scottish DJ, label owner, and producer, Kevin McKay who’s been in the electronic scene for three decades.

His early productions as Muzique Tropique saw support from the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Dubfire, Roger Sanchez, and Danny Tenaglia. As well as founding his own imprint, Glasgow Underground which became one of Deep Houses’ go-to labels of the late ’90s, Kevin McKay discovered fellow Scot electronic artist, Mylo in 2002.

He relaunched Glasgow Underground in 2011 releasing both his own music as well as Claptone, Gerd Janson, MCDE, Dixon, and Dennis Cruz. Kevin McKay has just released ‘Miss You’, featuring Alex Grewer and Tasty Lopez, a disco-fied take on the Rolling Stone’s classic.

This Burn was challenging. The rain and mud cancelled one of the moments I was most excited for: Sunrise with the Bubbles & Bass crew. I've loved the vibes from that camp for years, from watching/listening to folks there like @N2Nmusic and David @Hohme, and it was a dream in itself to be chosen to play. I got to see some dope folks earlier in the week, including my homie Goma one afternoon and an all-femme lineup another morning. The energy and love were so high! 

With this one, I wanted to give a little funk, a little soul, a little Latinidad, and a little history (and an homage to Osunlade at the end, who would have also played that Saturday morning.) I felt drawn to record the music that would have inspired the moment. Unforgettable. Thanks so much to StephyV and Lidia Lo (who would've played after me!) for the encouragement!

I had the honor of playing a poolside set for Camp Silver Spur (near Yosemite) this past Fourth of July during their Glitter Ranch campout.

Everyone was lovely, but I felt the energy change at some point and tried to match the music accordingly. A gentleman floating in the pool shared his experience of being in the water when the bass changed (after my set), which was nice 😅

Upcoming Events

Worthy - Pink Mammoth - Burning Man 2015

First solo mix since September 2016, and unquestionably the best thing I have ever put together. All tracks that are new to me in the last year or so, with nothing older than a couple of years old - mostly lovely progressive house, peppered with a bit of techno. Mainly dark, with the occasional chink of light breaking through - kicks quite hard in places, but hopefully pushes the right emotional buttons too.

I know that occupying three hours of your time is a big ask, but I like think that it does the right things in the right places, and has enough interesting diversions, to justify it.

For over a decade Lick the DJ has been playing on the same continents as Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Chris Liebing, Trentemøller, Adam Beyer, Bassnectar, Daft Punk, Missy Elliott, Britney Spears, and many more. While in Berlin during the temperate summer of 2011 he successfully visited the headquarters of M-nus Records and was refused entrance to the world famous Berghain night club. He did, however, get into Twilo three separate times in the '90s.
