The Progspel : Chapter 010

Yeah I'm a little behind getting these uploaded lol

And here we are at The Progspel : Chapter 011, drinking Pixan Pepper Porter by Left Hand Brewing. I Don't normally go for the porters, but I saw it and it really wanted to be mine.

This set is little more upbeat than my normal sets and I after drinking that beer I was feeling kinda spicy, so I tried out a couple different mixing techniques. Don't know if you'll notice it or not. Enjoy the ride!

The Progspel : Chapter 011

What's up Soundcloud? I present to you the 12th Chapter of The Progspel. This one is special in two ways:

1. I had an intro track that I wanted to play for my son, Liddler Rascal but could not get anything to work right when I was picking tracks for the show. Liddler Rascal found me banging my head against the wall and offered to help. HOURS later it's way deep into the night and we've got an awesome starting line up. So I dedicate this set to him and his help. Thanks buddy, I said it like 50 times in the set but I appreciate the help and Good Job.

2. I was so excited to share what we did that I FORGOT to shout out the beer of the month! Our beer this show was Black House by Modern Times Beer out of San Diego, CA. A pretty awesome Oatmeal Coffee Stout. Love me some stouts in the winter.

Anyways, I'm excited to present this set. I dug mixing it. There's some epically long transitions toward the beginning of the set that felt pretty damn good if I may say so myself. Enjoy

Alrighty then. 015. What crazy Progspel this turned out to be. Funny thing about The Progspel... I never REALLY know what's going to happen. I pick out tracks, drop some hard earned cash over at the beatports, go pick out a new beer, think of cool & witty things to say on air, and then day of show mash it all together and see how it turns out. It's never quite the way I envision and honestly? It sounds an awful lot like a giant recipe for disaster...

We're lucky it wasn't this time. It just ended up a little darker and harder than I had originally intended. Enjoy ;)

Finally getting around to uploading the last Progspel.

I'm not going to lie, this is probably my least favorite of all my shows so far. I was soooo excited for the tracks, the beer, it was May the 4th, and well.... Live will be Live. I even forgot to record the first five minutes of the set. so I had to go back in and tack it on it this morning. lol No excuses, sometimes the set just doesn't come together like you want. I've never been a quitter. I have proof. Here is 2 1/2 hours of trying to power through. :D

The Progspel  Chapter 016 - ClownShack Guestmix

First let me thank https://soundcloud.com/liddle-rascal for the invite on his Progspel show. He does a monthly mix where he broadcasts it and mixes it live through this site, https://thehookahclan.weebly.com/ . There we can listen and chat  as well. Fun as hell to have a drink or a toke and live chat with the DJ.

This mix was LIVE! I mean mixed and broadcast live. I was hesitant to post this as with most people, I am guilty of being my own worst enemy. Several mistakes (my opinion) were made and a couple of choices I almost wish I could take back haha. I don't mean to make excuses but... I was taking my wife and kids fishing for the first time the same day for the show. We were gone the night before and stayed at a friends house so we could get an early start. I was out at the Pueblo Reservoir for 7 hours in the sun with families and kids.  Had a BBQ after and some drinks. Then we made a 2 hour drive back. It was such a rush to make it on time for the broadcast time that I was actually several minutes late getting started.  Y'know, wife and kids and all haha! AND!!! AND!!! And I thought I hit record but I totally missed the first 30 minutes I mixed! Liddle Rascal said I did it on purpose haha! So...No practice. No warming. Now, I wanted this mix to be as close to 100% live as possible. By that I mean, I narrowed down around 200+ recent promos to 38. Way more than enough to play 2 hours or less (no restriction). The thing is, I had basically zero knowledge of any of them aside from some basic cue points set. Unlike my show where I spend MANY hours pre-planning and practicing, I had nothing other than some tracks I liked. This mix is 100% making it up as I go. I don't normally do this, as I am a perfectionist but I wanted to challenge myself more than anything. My biggest complaint was going into Rafael Cerato's "Underwater". I came in too early, as it has a strong melody. It clashed a bit. I was sad because it is an awesome tune. It knocked my confidence down a bit. Then, as I felt defeated and slammed a beer, I decided to follow up Raf's track with something I told myself I wasn't gonna play,	Huskarian Geist feat. Susie Ledge - Fall To Pieces (Sense8 Remix). Of course it was hard getting out of Raf's tune as well. But I did it anyway and then come the slightly trancey and definitely cheesy vocals of it. I will admit that I do like the track but it's not something I normally play. 82.5% of the reason I played it was because I knew Liddle Rascal would would make a comment about it. Without fail, he did! Said the vocals were "cheese"! After I got out a hearty laugh I got back into my normal sounds. That was about the only spot I felt was terrible. I listened back to the rest and felt it really isn't too bad overall and decided to post this for my fans.  I hope you listen and enjoy the set. :))

I had a great time doing this mix live and I plan on doing it again. The night was awesome! After I mixed, Liddle Rascal started his live set and we had a blast!

Blake Baltimore @ Progspel: Chapter 017 (June 2019) - Guest Mix

What a great ~4 1/2 hours of music this show was. We kicked off the evening with @BlakeBaltimore live set as his induction into the hallowed halls of The Hookah Clan. Welcome Brotholemew.

Live is live. you have no idea how live it was. We both forgot to hit record at the beginning of our sets and I had my input mapped to something that was blasting feedback. I got it figured out about halfway into the first track. That's the "Testing" you'll hear. lol I love live and I mean that in the best possible way. This set was so much fun to mix. From start to end the choons mostly just went. I normally pick a ton of tracks line a couple up at the beginning then go blazing off into freestyle, grab and go and usually end up with unmixed tracks at the end. Not this time. I used all of the tracks. That doesn't happen. Ever. lol

Another Progspel in the Books! The series has flown by. It continues to be a ton of fun and a technical challenge. Literally, I'm on the phone with @Clownshack 5 minutes before airtime... BRO. I can't get the server to connect!!! hehe. Thanks for talking me down almost every month.

The Progspel : Chapter 018

What a fun set this was! Getting close to 2 years and still going strong. There were some pretty great tracks in this one.

I love being able to snag some tracks, a great beer, and mix some choons and *e-hang* with friends. You should stop by. @clownshack and co requested that I try mixing first so they didn't have to stay up super late to listen. I think I liked it. May have to stick with it.

I was crushing the White Rascal by Avery Brewing Co this time around. Not really my mug of beer, but a great Belgian style white ale. It's pretty amazing the things you learn about beer mixing this show lol.  

I've been pondering live streaming video as well and posting on youtube. What do you guys think?

Liddle Rascal's no stranger to the land of trance and progressive. After hearing a CD with the 1999 Spundae Studio set by Hybrid in early '00, he was hooked. He danced from genre to genre. Breaks, Trance, Hard Dance, House, finally landing in his genres of choice, Deep Progressive House and Minimal Progressive Trance. After learning how to mix, he made a brief foray into the land of internet radio as a guest on LRCN's 4x4 Show on Afterhours.fm and a short lived live internet series called The Absinthe Sessions. Shortly thereafter, life caught up to him. He disappeared off the face of the EDM for years only to re-emerge, determined to resurrect The Hookah Clan and committed to spreading the Progspel across the globe, one set at a time.

In a quest to get in touch with his musical roots, he recently sprung on an idea for a new series of DJ sets called The Mixumentaries. This unique series gives the listener a glimpse into the mind of producers by spotlighting artists and laying a interview with them over the top of a set comprised solely of their music. He's also begun taking baby steps back into the world of internet radio appearing as a guest on Blake Baltimore's Abandon Logic show on DI.fm. Not much else is known about him other than his love for music. "I typically play my sets close to my chest, but it's time to get out there and start spread the Progspel again" he said.

According to Liddle Rascal, life is like his favorite DJ set... He's stuck in the transition waiting for the beat to drop.
