'Altijd dit lege hart' is based on the poem 'November' by J.C. Bloem.

Het regent en het is november
Weer keert het najaar en belaagt
Het hart, dat droef, maar steeds gewender,
Zijn heimelijke pijnen draagt.

En in de kamer, waar gelaten
Het dagelijks leven wordt verricht,
Schijnt uit de troosteloze straten
Een ongekleurd namiddaglicht.

De jaren gaan zoals zij gingen,
Er is allengs geen onderscheid
Meer tussen dove erinneringen
En wat geleefd wordt en verbeid.

Verloren zijn de prille wegen
Om te ontkomen aan den tijd:

The love for baroque music, free impro and electronics leads sound artists Leonardo Melchionda and Lieve De Sadeleer to reinvent Louis Couperin’s Préludes non mesurés. Defined as a composition form that was very popular until the XVII century, the unmeasured preludes are declamatory outbursts of extraordinary irregular phrases: no rhythm nor dynamics indications, just a stream of notes written as a flow of sounds. From the Prelude in A major, Leonardo and Lieve are carrying Couperin’s unexpected harmonies and recitative-like melodies through a distorted soundscape where the wind becomes electric and the vibrations last forever. Processing the recorder and the guitar with refined electronics, the sound progresses into a new counterpoint made of detuned melodies, scattered chord progressions, floating unpitched elements, odd grooves, and long sustained tones.

Non mesurés: wind

Routine is a piece for bass recorder and live electronics. I composed it during the lockdown. The title refers to routine in various forms: creating routine as a way to find stability, bringing rhythm into the day, but also the irritation it can provoke—doing the same thing over and over, repeating patterns throughout the day...

Spending so much time at home in the city made me more aware of the sounds from the street: neighbors communicating from a distance, children running around, cars passing by. Even listening to these sounds became a kind of routine, which I wove into this piece.
