I wrote this track in 1998, using samples from one of my Heroes, the infamous Bill Hicks. If he were alive today, there is so much material he would launch into...

I used these samples because I liked the ideas he was conveying...I think I have the original data to this, and may be able to re-record at some point. Perhaps I should have editted the coughing out! ;)

Juno Reactor - Tempest (Life Support Remix)

Written in 2000, and I still think probably my best track ever!!! Unfortunately lost in a hard drive failure, only the MP3 remains...

I was angry when I wrote this, and I like the energy this gave. Out of all the tracks I have lost, this is the one I mourn the most. I would love to re-record this, this one has my favourite use of the 303. At the time I had access to 2 of them. The line running throughout the track was programmed by me, but the funky distorted one was created by the second TB 303, with a little tidying done by me. The acid line it created is sublime...I would love to claim credit for it but cannot...I would never have written anything like it. True man and machine working together for a better outcome! ;)

This track symbolises everything I love about underground music, and I wish I could recreate it. It was a product of its time, and I've lost some of the crucial elements so I could never recreate it in this form...

Life Support - The Universe Started With A Bang (Hadron Collider Remix)

I loved the sample in this track, which is what inspired the whole thing. I'm a big believer in nuclear power, as I believe it is nature's power source, will ultimately be the cleanest energy source, and will solve mankind's energy crisis. The sample, I think, delivers the messages that nuclear power is the driving force behind the universe and that it should not be feared. 

This track is one of the most complex things I've ever done, in terms of the amount of layers and overall sound. It is also the first track I have mastered with new software, as opposed to just maximizing the levels. I will definitely revisit this when I eventually buy my new mixing desk, by then no doubt I'll have found a few tweaks to do to the programming...

Life Support - The Unseen Glow of Radioactivity

The final version, programming tidied up, and all parts re-EQ'd. Bass and kick drum separated so the bass sounds less muddy, and everything sounds clearer.

I'm very proud of this track, I love the trancey hypnotic feel the track starts with, and I think the acid line is one of my best 303 patterns.

Life Support - The Universe Started with a Bang...

This track was written in 1999, and recorded to tape. It's a track I do have all the original MIDI saved on my trusty Amiga. Although the track is all my own work, the awesome name came from a conversation with my mate Dave years earlier. I think we were planning to print T-shirts. No doubt we were drinking cider and black and watching B-movies or horror films at the time...

Life Support - 909 Number of the Beat

This track was written in 1999. Not sure if there was any inspiration, maybe a thunder storm and then deciding to want to use thunder in a track. I've always loved thunder storms, lightning is beautiful, and the sound thunder has is amazing. The whole experience makes you realise how powerful nature can be. With my love of horror films came the obvious association, and some added horror samples.

This is a track I may well revisit, I have all the original data on my Amiga...though not sure if I still have the horror sound FX tape. With moving to new sequencing software I'm sure I could improve this track, though porting all the information across from the Amiga could be time consuming...I believe it would be worth it, as I could make the thunder more natural, and a bigger presence in the track

Life Support - Ride of Frankenstein

This track is from 1993, and is the oldest track I will probably put on Soundcloud. It was totally written with my Amiga, before I owned any studio gear. 4 tracks of audio was all that was used to create this track, along with streams of numbers...All sounds/breakbeats were lifted from records in my collection, and individually tuned, with the exception of the Annie Nightingale vocal, which was taken from a tape from a recording from Radio 1.

I think this was probably the era I suddenly understood how to construct tracks...My enforced year out of uni was not wasted! ;)

Life Support - Visual Reality

This track was written in 1994 for my girlfriend at the time, I think it accurately captured my feelings. She was a goth, and hated it though...

I've included this in my archive, because it is the most melodic thing I've ever written, and it is diverse from my normal output. This version was re-recorded in 1998, it sounds better because I had access to better equipment. It's no seal of approval, but my dad "almost" liked this, it was the relentless drum machine that annoyed him...

I included this, because it's important to me as a track. I'm unlikely to ever re-record it...as I have become more bitter and twisted, and no longer have any equipment that produces a piano sound...

Life Support - Bio-Rhythm

This track has been finished today. I've been working on this for the last few weeks, after initially making an unusual metallic bit-crushed pattern...then I found the perfect sample. The track came together quite quickly, it's just the tweaks and polish that have taken the time...

This is a track I will definitely re-record at some point, as I've received some constructive criticism on how to improve it!



Time Loses all Meaning (mastered)

This music here is an archive of older music I've written and lost...along with the new.

I've been writing music since 1991, armed with my trusty Amiga, an 8-bit sampler and in the infamous Octamed. I soon got fed up with having to sample synths from rave records etc, and had already fell in love with the acid sound. I began buying hardware, and the learning process continued...

My music is unashamedly trancey, though I don't know that I'd describe it as euphoric. I like tracks that twist and turn, and due to my love of the acid sound, there's nearly always a 303 on each track...

Over time though I realised that my workhorse is the 909...There's nothing like the feeling of walking into a club, and the kick drum knocks the air from your lungs!

I've been influenced by lots of bands over the years, such as Joy Division, New Order, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, N-Joi, Cosmic Baby, Hardfloor, Ege Bam Yasi, Orbital, Meat Beat Manifesto, Union Jack, Nine Inch Nails, Eat Static, Juno Reactor, Praga Khan, X-Dream, Empirion, Infinity Project, Tim Taylor & Dan Zamani, Program 2, Jon the Dentist, Baby Doc; and labels such as Labworks, SUF, Routemaster, Harthouse, TIP, Dragonfly. I could go on, the list is endless...though it can clearly be seen that my influences are industrial, acid, trance, psy-trance, techno and rave. Having said that, I enjoy music from several more genres such as electro, psybient, illbient and DnB.

The idea here, is that the newer tracks here are pretty much completed demos, they will be re-recorded when I can upgrade my mixing desk, and will be remastered, and maybe a few alterations in the programming. So if you have any comments feel free to add, I'm striving to create perfect dance tracks to take any listener to a new place for several minutes. The older tracks are here, because I feel they are part of my journey into being the programmer I am today. While I still have some of the original song data, a lot of my best work was lost in hard drive failure, the MP3s of those are here as history.
