Tal Fussman strides forward with ‘Back up’, the sophomore release on his own Survival Tactics imprint, revealing yet another glimpse at his anticipated debut album. Much like with predecessor ‘Talk To Me’, the Israel-born, Berlin-based producer showcases a masterful hand at crafting powerful club tracks that are both physically moving and rich in heady atmospheres.
Thus, Fussman’s mission of creating crowd-entrancing moments of togetherness is firmly in focus here: Arranged around a deceptively simple interplay of perfectly balanced elements, ‘Back Up’ relentlessly propels itself forward by way of its warm wooden punch, staccato chants and elastic neon synths. The devil is in the details, however, and Fussman weaves in plenty of subtle nuances by way of his intricate sound design, letting this floor-shaker unfold towards its climax like a flower in bloom.

Damian Lazarus celebrates 20 Years of his world-renowned Crosstown Rebels imprint with a special album  project of unreleased cuts and fresh remixes, featuring material from Black Coffee, Maceo Plex, Art Department,  Dennis Cruz and many more. 

Ringing in a major milestone in style, 2023 will see Lazarus and Crosstown mark  the 20th Anniversary of the label with a series of celebratory projects unveiled in the lead-up to summer, with ‘CR20 The Album’ set for  release on 12th May 2023.  

“20 years ago, I dreamed a dream of creating a family of like-minded, crazy individuals from all corners of the planet - releasing  music to the world and making people dance. That dream was Crosstown Rebels, and this year we are 20. Over these years, I have  forged beautiful friendships, discovered very talented artists and tried my best to help, advise and support some of the most  colourful characters in dance music. Crosstown Rebels is more than a record label, it is family. 

So 2023 will mark the label’s 20th Anniversary. This is an opportunity for the Crosstown Rebels family, a global community of  artists, DJs and creatives, and the label’s myriad of followers to celebrate this momentous milestone. There will be parties and  events around the world. A killer compilation of exclusives and special remixes, a beautiful coffee table book, a short film, and a  special launch event are planned to bring together the sights and sounds of the label’s unique and influential history. Opening the package, Lazarus’ own 2020 collaboration ‘Into The Sun’ with regular Crosstown vocalist Jem Cooke is given a cosmic rework  by Johannesburg’s Major League DJz, while Jamie Jones’ slick ‘Paradise 2011’ is stripped back and given a new lease of life by the  hypnotic and heady sounds of Art Department. Opening the B-Side, Dennis Cruz brings his percussive Latin-infused signature sound  palette to Chilean musician and producer Pier Bucci’s ‘Hay Consuelo’, before Audiojack’s ‘Feel Good’, another standout collaboration  alongside Cooke, is taken into synth-led territories as Michael Mayer reaches for an evolving bed of captivating tones. 

The second half of the project brings more excellently remixed material, both new and old, with GRAMMY-winning DJ/producer Black Coffee  turning his hand to the label’s first release of 2023 in Made By Pete and Zoe Kypri’s emotive ‘Horizon Red’, unveiling reworked melodies and  sparkling keys as he delivers an interpretation of a track which has featured as a staple in his sets. Next, the project welcomes Adam Ten &  Yamagucci’s playful yet off-kilter and wonky ‘The K Dance’ which unveils itself as a production perfect for those late night hours and early  afters, before Ellum boss Maceo Plex’s ‘Together (2011 Mix)’ brings another lost production to the mix with a driving and zipping ride through  sugary synths and soaring leads. To close, Tibi Dabo turns his attention to Guti & Dubshape’s absorbing ‘Every Cow Has A Bird’, delivering a  nimble minimal-led trip through lush pads and crisp percussion to round things out in style.

Parallelle join forces with Nicolas Masseyeff once again for ‘Renegade’ on Crosstown Rebels, featuring a  remix from Adam Ten & Mita Gami.  

Collaborating previously on DGTL, having known each other for years, Dutch brother duo Parallelle and France’s Nicolas  Masseyeff have created a partnership within the studio that clicks. Parallelle are multi-instrumentalists, composers, producers  and Klassified Records owners with a hybrid sound that mixes up electronica, electro-jazz and underground house, while  Masseyeff is equally accomplished and draws on minimalism, jazz, new wave, Detroit and Chicago when crafting his signature  sound on the likes of Systematic Recordings and Diversions Music. Linking up again, the three talents combine for a first  outing on Crosstown Rebels with ‘Renegade’. 

Thomas of Parallelle says, “We have created a very complementary, fun and fluid creative flow when together in the studio. We  like to keep a renegade mindset and always look for a dirty groove.” And that shows across these latest creations.  

Up first is title track ‘Renegade’, a deep mid-tempo house shuffler. The drums are elegant and airy, with bright chords and a  rasping baseline. It’s a real mood builder with dramatic synth sweeps that brings a sense of class to the dance floor.  

Israeli artists Adam Ten & Mita Gami have been a creative force for the last couple of years, and their ‘High On’ EP on  Crosstown Rebels last year gained huge success, defining a new movement of psychedelic house sounds. Their remix of  ‘Renegade’ offers a slowly unfolding masterclass with moving melodies and modulated synths casting a captivating spell. 

Last of all is ‘Bandidos’, another deep and subtle track infused with rich synth work. The bright lines and deft pads are lithe  and loose over the underlapping drums, encouraging you to gaze in awe as you get lost in the mellifluous groove.

Already a close member of Life and Death’s extended family, @adamten makes his debut appearance on the label with a freaky anthem, distinctly shaped for baroque dancefloors, eccentric parties, and sweaty summer festivals.  

It’s already been a massive run for Adam Ten over the past year: following the chart-topping success of his anthemic tune ‘Spring Girl’ on Higher Ground, Adam performed one of the most impactful sets at Burning Man last summer, had two packed DJ sets with longtime collaborator Mita Gami at the Yuma Tent at Coachella, and has all the while stayed consistent with strong releases on Crosstown Rebels and his very own label Maccabi House label. 

‘Magic Circus’ has Adam’s signature soundscape all over it: funky samples, hypnotizing groove and trippy synths, coupled with tensed buildups and highly percussive drums. This special record has been a staple in recent sets by Adam himself, as well as Life and Death label member Carlita, and founder DJ Tennis.

Uprising artist from the Israeli scene, @mishellmusik is currently one of the hottest names in Tel Aviv. He has been leaving his mark around the world by enticing dance floors with his authentic groove, sharp pace and mastering the art of combining psychedelic references with House and Indie Dance. Heavy producer, the majority of his sets are his own productions, Expect elegant sounds with a naughty feel.  Both techy and smooth, Mishell evolves his audience with sexy, cheeky beats and a strong bass line. His music is fun and fresh, oscillating between darker textures and melodic build-ups with warmer tones.

He's just out on Solomun's Diynamic so the moment couldn't be better to sign something for Complaint Kulture.

The two tracker sent to us is matching the press-text 100% above; ass-shaking dancefloor bombs which are kinda universal dj tools for any kind of music players out there. Both a bit tricky to mix but when you find the best way to put those loops in, gonna stay in your playlist for a long-long time.
