There was an old mellotron from the 1960s in this studio we were working from in Berlin, and one night I started working on this descending chord pattern, which then became Future Visions. The song is about lying awake, late at night, thinking about the things you’re going to say to this person that you’re hopelessly in love with, and how you wish you could get closer to them. - Ed Kenny on 'Future Visions'

Juan Yarin is next up on the Rumors with his Lovefool EP, which comes with a remix from label head Guy Gerber, completing a standout package.

Juan Yarin is a core part of the Rumors family and a regular at the label's Ibiza party. He has released his emotive brand of deep house here before, such as with last year's Venice Beach EP, and impresses once more this time out.

Lovefool opens up with spine-tingling piano chords draped over soft, deep house drums. A tender vocal completes the most majestic groove. Lovefool (Guy Gerber Remix) is a stylish tweak with the piano chords left in place and the drums given a little extra bite. The whole thing sinks you into a reverie and makes for truly beautiful listening. Paradiso then picks up the pace with a more upright house sound this time with low-slung bass and icy hi hats adding detail next to the elegant synth craft. Lina closes down with some heady, hypotonic house that is filled with late-night atmosphere and swirling cosmic keys.

Before its release date "LOVEFOOL" has already been played by known artists such as KEINEMUSIK at BURNING MAN 2022, and even received a special remix version by GUY GERBER to be released along with the EP. Over the years, Berlin has been cited as Oliver Koletzki's main point of reference and, more importantly, his endless source of inspiration. His albums Großstadtmärchen and Großstadtmärchen 2 are wholehearted tributes of the German capital, as its importance is continuously hinted and charted. Friedrichshain, one of Berlin's vibrant districts, has always held a special place in Oliver's heart. This is where he started out when he first moved to the city, and this is where he lives now. Kreuzberg's wall paintings adorn Stil vor Talent's cover sleeves and host their headquarters. There are little to no corners in the city that haven't brought a spark of inspiration into the mix. The Schneeweiss compilation series, now at its 14th installment, is built as a form of tribute to all these particles, tied in together into a series of carefully curated tracks. Each compilation stands at the intersection of the musical and cultural surroundings most prominent of their respective times, acting both as a reminder as well as a timeless sound capsule for the years to come.

It is the proper name of our music studio, located in the city of Barcelona, where we composed many songs, including "Marina". It is a transmuting place, where we let the negative become joy, hope, and illusion through music and creation. We want to give people a moment of illusion and hope. A fun moment. The last twelve months have been nothing short of a whirlwind ride for WhoMadeWho. Reflecting on one the most prolific years in their esteemed history – a year which has seen them drop their critically acclaimed studio album UUUU and wrap their intensive world tour – the globally sought-after Danish act now looks to conclude 2022 in style, as they commission Patrice Bäumel to deliver one of the biggest remixes of the year.

No strangers to one another, following the release of their debut collaboration Nefertari on Cercle Records in 2021, the WhoMadeWho-Bäumel combination is tried and tested, to say the least. With Bäumel now on official remix duties, this latest record sees the world-renowned Dutch producer breathe a vibrant club energy into one of the standout singles from WhoMadeWho’s latest album, as he reimagines the inimitable Never Alone.

True to reputation, Bäumel’s remix is a masterclass from the off. Manipulating Tomas Høffding’s withdrawn vocals across the latter half of the nine-minute cut, the Dutchman’s heady amalgam of rhythmic drum patterns and textured synths is utterly compelling, as he concocts a spine-tingling house track that delivers from the very first kickdrum. Propelled by deep basslines and dynamic synth lines, Patrice’s remix brings the whimsical original to the depths of the dancefloor, as he adds to his expansive catalogue with yet another majestic, peak-time masterpiece.

Felix Laband’s The Soft White Hand is the masterwork of an artist who expresses himself through musical and artistic collage acting together to reinterpret his sources and to express significant elements of his own personal story.
Released by Munich-based Compost Records, the 14-track album is Laband’s first full-length offering since the critically acclaimed Deaf Safari in 2015.


In The Soft White Hand Laband works with source materials that will be familiar to those who know his previous four records – Thin Shoes in June (2001), 4/4 Down the Stairs (2002), Dark Days Exit (2005) and especially Deaf Safari which reached deep into the South Africa scene and its political culture to inspire its vocal and music sampling. However, the disengagement he felt from his homeland during his latest album’s creation – an abiding sense of untethered-ness to place and space, exquisitely rendered in tracks like “Death of a Migrant” – is perceptible in Laband’s desire to illuminate instead aspects of his own life.
“For this album, my source material became almost autobiographical as opposed to African statements I’ve worked with previously,” says the artist. “I have sampled a lot from documentaries from the 80s crack epidemic in impoverished African American communities and
believe my work speaks unapologetically for the lost and marginalised, for those who are the forgotten casualties of the war on drugs. In the past, I have had my issues with substance abuse, and I know first-hand about the nightmares and fears, what it feels like to be isolated and abandoned.”
