Next up from Sofa Sound is the forthcoming collaborations from drum & bass heavyweights DLR, Break, Randall and Ulterior Motive, a collective who’ve all helped to pioneer the genre whilst staying inherently underground. Whilst Break and Randall have laid its foundations, producers like DLR and Ulterior Motive have shaped the more contemporary scene, although both tracks signify the colossal engineering standards of each featuring artist. The established names also bring their weight to Sofa Sound’s back catalogue, which has expanded since its creation by DLR in 2017. 

DLR, Break and Randall come together for lead track ‘Song & Dance’, an old-school reminiscent roller with snipped up, mc-lead vocal samples and jazzy instrumentals. The energy between all three artists is instantly recognisable, with Randall’s old-school approach shining through each layer. On top of strung guitar notes and a hook which nods to its namesake, ‘Song & Dance’ blends a mixture of styles to present a versatile addition to Sofa Sound.

Next comes ‘Modules’, featuring a combination of sonics recorded through Ulterior Motive’s modular set up. The ruminating drums and basses brought from the collections of their collaborators deliver its funkier elements, with the bassline fluctuating between notes and twisting its way through a melodic undertow. Alongside its unusual structure, the track’s organic approach and frequent switches grab its listener unaware. Another imperative release on Sofa Sound, the imprint has shown its commitment to artists from across the spectrum, through both its digital releases and physical discography additions.

Back on that collab business, the boys in VC are once again skimming the delicious cream off the top of the dnb scene, and bringing you a tasty release of hard-hitting partnerships, featuring some new alliances, as well as some stellar remixes of previous tunes. 

The first two in the series saw some massive meetings of producer talents, with the lads teaming up with Wingz, Kyrist, Vowel, Philth, and many other big and emerging names in the scene. 

Vol. 3 is no different, be it the maxxed out neuro banger of 'Vobelord' with ABIS, or the slick, rolling sounds of 'Gully Tuckshop' with Primitive Instinct; the unique styles that emerge when two creative forces come together is undeniable. This release also sees them go head to head with the mighty Cruk on 'Bindipper', which as the name suggests is an absolute stinker! Philth returns again as a collaborator on 'Flags', a moody cut of deep, 4am tech. 

On remix duties, this release just gets silly. Kyrist puts her spin on the VC & Vowel track 'Dispersed', and takes it to a very dark, very nasty place. Creatures then steps in by reworking her collab 'Rolex' into a big, steppy slice of techy drum and bass. Two producers who continue to make a serious impact on the scene coming together, it was never gunna be anything less than absolutely ridiculous, and these tracks don't disappoint! 

This series continues to show the power of producers putting their brains & laptops together, as well as presenting a cross-section of the stupidly good talent overflowing from the scene at the minute! Not one to be missed for sure, this series is an essential arsenal of mental tunes for any dnb dj.

As we approach the end of our 6th year in business, we proudly present a veritable smorgasbord of Drum & Bass, boasting some more established names, while staying true to our roots providing a platform for exciting, new talent. With tracks spanning the breadth of 10 countries, we welcome back some familiar Soulvent stalwarts providing a slew of original tracks, alongside some exciting re-imaginings too. These delights are all neatly delivered in Pola & Bryson’s smooth continuous mix, and will be available across digital download, 3-disc CD and a special 7-track vinyl sampler. 

Expect vocal features from heavyweights such as Robert Manos, Jakes, and Ruth Royall - while simultaneously representing the newer kids on the block in King DeepField, Sydney, Erin Goss and Yamoona. 

The formidable interplay between Ruckspin and Ruth Royall on ‘Porcelain’ is nothing short of beautiful; skippy breaks and buoyant bass provide boundless basis for Ruth’s emotive and raw lyrics. One third of the undisputed Kings Of The Rollers, and stand-out producer in his own right; Bladerunner graces us with ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ - a longing track full of rumbling reese and luscious pianos. Cheeky flavour is on offer from Austrian-born Screamarts with his track ‘Mischievous’ which is dripping in funk - quick guitar licks blend harmoniously with big bass and tight drums. With the first peep since their debut LP Voyager earlier this year, In:Most return with a weighty tech-infused banger in ‘Replicant’. Lastly, The Vanguard Project carve it out with ‘Pumpkin’ - perfect for our October release, with its pulsing 4 to the floor low-end and dreamy arpeggiated synth lines lighting the way home. 

Though we can’t all unite in a dimly lit room to a soundtrack of roaring, rousing music just yet; we can certainly deliver the most varied, nutritional, and soul nurturing project to date on Soulvent - ‘Soul Music 2020’ - out in all good stores from the 23rd of October.
