Parma-based singer and songwriter Loreni’s released her synth-pop version in 2020 and here the always charming Mushrooms Project are joined by Deep88 to provide four subterranean reworks. Translated as ‘snow in May’, the song alludes to the confusing and unexpected times through which the world is currently living, and Loreni’s bittersweet vocals offer ample inspiration for the chosen remixers to work their respective magic here. Fellow Parma residents Marco and Girogio unite under their Mushrooms Project banner with three distinct interpretations.
The duo’s work is always immaculately formed, and here they open proceedings with their ‘Disco Maxi Single’ version, where throbbing synth bass and atmospheric waves are joined by crisp machine drums for a pulsating club workout. Their ‘Balearic’ mix finds them in familiar territory as they join Leo Almunia to compose a blissful soundtrack to immersive ocean-side reflections. As the name suggests, their ‘Rave’ version is designed for dubbed out dancefloors, with bass-heavy rhythm and wigged-out effects periodically lifted by dreamy chords and distantly gliding vocals. Finally, Alessandro ‘Deep88’ Pasini arrives with his authentic dream house version, with emotive pads caressing Loreni’s reverb-soaked vocals over a chugging four/four rhythm.

Das Komplex - Siren

Catchy pop featuring Rob Papen Blue 3 vst, Argon 8m and Roland JV-2080. Bass and lead and small additions is the Blue, drums are Ableton stock, pads from Argon and arps and other filter sweep sounds the JV. Made during the hottest summer days in Stockholm so far in 2024 in one evening for sketching and recording and the day after for arrangement. Forgive my sloppy synth playing, the action is the small Keystep 37, portable but does not give the same feel as a larger, longer keybed. Well, I kept some faulty timing and corrected other notes. Enjoy!

For our next record on Light of Other Days, we reached out to friends & companions with the request to remix some of our past releases. Until now we were very thrifty with remixes. In fact we only released one remix so far and that one was by HOVE himself on ETHIMM’s very first release. So this time around, we thought it would be nice to widen our circle and reach out to some of our favorite producers out there and ask for a contribution.

First up we have Unkown Mobile. His EP «No Motion» on ASL Recordings was one of our favorite records of 2016 so we decided to just straight up ask him for a remix. He came up with a beautiful rework of Gray Chalk’s «Dense Layers of Suspended Water» by adding some lush arpeggios and percussion while keeping the original mood very much alive. 

Next, we have Zurich’s very own Phantom Island. Lexx and Kejeblos transformed «Romance» by HOVE from a blurry ambient track into a delightful balearic house tune with a beautifully nodding hight-ceiling atmosphere. 

Last year HOVE started working with Michal Turtle. What began as a live collaboration turned into a very fruitful relationship between the two and HOVE even started to record guitar parts for Michal’s new music. Therefor we thought it is only right add a Michal Turtle remix to the Package. Michal came up with a very nice spaced out 9 minutes version of HOVE’s «Journey to Arendal» adding some more bass, bells and lots of delays. 

Zurichs underground-wizards Jack Pattern released some of the most exciting swiss electronic music in recent years via their own imprint Lustpoderosa. They turned Ethimm’s signature track “Burning Down” into a wild and joyful ride adding acid-basslines, outer-space soundbleeps and wacky percussions to the originals’ main theme.

Lexx - Too Hot Feat. Woolfy [From the Album Cosmic Shift]

These tracks were written and produced over the last week; a most unusally quick turnaround for me :) It seems isolation has caused a burst of creativity. The current lockdown also affected the feel of the music; these two tracks are quite sombre in tone but with a note of positivity running through them, hence the titles. Anyway, hope you like the music.

Joe Morris - The New Dawn Will Come

Lewie Day – aka Tornado Wallace – ups the meteorological ante and turns in some laser-guided, ethno-hypno, eco-lectro jams for the eighth Beats In Space Records release.

The three tracks of Tornado Wallace’s Desperate Pleasures EP sound like the work of a comfortable yet adventurous producer who isn’t afraid to take a simple yet exotic theme and stride to the other side of the jungle. According to Wallace, this is “music for darker times in warmer climes, for where there is sun there are shadows.”

What began as in-the-moment experiments with an assortment of old synths, drum machines, and dusty library records evolved into three super dapper, viscerally contaminated compositions, each one more zoned in / out than the next.

Drawing from 70s kraut, 80s post-punk, electro, and 90s house and trance, the ten plus years of producing / DJ experience that Wallace boasts allow for all of these elements to fuse together quite tastefully and strikingly at that. Ultimately, these Tornado jams dodge genre conventions for a curious and compelling outcome.

Each 12″ from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. This 12″ features the tropical creature comforts of Californian Steven Harrington and comes on tri-colored, Day-Glo splattered wax. The 12″ packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling.

Tornado Wallace’s Desperate Pleasures will be released on June 18, 2013 on Beats In Space as a limited edition 12” and digitally.
