this song touches on themes of longing for rightness and working back to the feeling from precious moments of joy. "wild woods" discusses ways in which these sentiments can exist in nature, through the moon longing to experience the sun after an eclipse or a stream weaving its way back to the sea.

the lyrics in "the cold" grapple with reckoning the ending of a dear relationship and the difficulty of navigating the changing of a season. this song contains some of lighthearted's most inventive production features yet, including muffled drums, vocal distortion, mandolin, and q-tron envelope filtered guitar. these elements are balanced by the grounding piano, acoustic guitar riff, and drum groove. 

"the cold" is the third single off of lighthearted's debut album that will be released in spring of 2023.

lighthearted  is a dynamic indie-folk band from Athens, Georgia, fronted by identical twin sisters Gracie Huffman & Eliza Lemmon.
