For me growing up, music was Church. Mama was pianist for worship in our pentecostal church and her evening practice freestyling heartsong taught me what it is to let longing and loving take melodic form.   Flash forward to the cataclysmic identity shift of losing my religion in my early twenties:  singing together got thrown out with the baby and the bath water.  Flash forward to encountering community singing at Village Fire in 2014 when my soul came home.  

I feel most open to sharing expression of the Sacred when we get to be just as silly and sexy and simply ourselves as can be.  The chorus for this song dropped in one day when this enneagram 4 was grumping it up a la typical, lil eeyore woe is me.  The verses fell in quickly for an Earthkeepers Wisdom School exercise.  Then Eoghan Carrick came for a coronacoaster song-kin slumber party sanity weekend and brought his BANJO! And we made this for you :D

inspired by 1 John 4:18 from somewhere deep in my childhood Bible brain ...." There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. "

Caught 2008ish? The melody is one I wrapped myself in to traverse the dark four flights of the mostly abandoned Lemp warehouses in STL to get to my art studio safely.   I was learning by doing, casting a circle, song medicine.  The echoes made everything epic. 

Here I am teaching it to the circle at Village Fire 2014, first ever call-and-response song leading. I burst out crying laughing when they sang the first line back. Total coming home moment.

Inspired by and in collaboration with the work of Isabel Friend, my soul-sister and Earthkeepers Wisdom School visionary Carolyn Griffeth invited me to catch a song for a ritual to bless, enoble and restructure  Water.  The words of this ceremony are inspired by the work of groundbreaking Japanese water researcher Dr. Emoto, who discovered the words water likes best.   

"We thank you water.  
We love you water. 
We respect you water. 
You are Life!"

So I went for a hike to Kickapoo State Park and asked the waters there (a pond, post coal-mine) for a song. This simple mantra came as a response ~ a basic matrix to hold the embellishment of your harmony and the power of your prayers.  May our attention and our love support the restoration, vitality, & healing power of living Water.
