DOLLMAKER by @i-knos-sc is one of the most exciting records of 2025. Interweaving the sonics of ambient and deconstructed club with a narrative arced around the artificial or super-temporal corporeality of particular Bloodborne characters, the album simultaneously performs a demolition on the conventions of dubstep. There is something natural about the counterposal of these two worlds. That entire canon of 2010s riddim and brostep bore a supra-industrial death-drive, cloaking in luminescent timbre an omega-point of language and sensibility. Bloodborne is a game about the irreparably heedless élan of death-drives, and characters like the Doll and Lady Maria accursed reminders of the nightmarish immurement consequent of violence’s pleasure.

So to incorporate the two - to perform an autopsy on the incandescent zombie of dubstep and redesign it via the incorporation of ambient, breakcore, post-club, and to thematize this via a game about the various entrapments of zombified bodies - is essentially complementary. The reconstitution of a body, the poetry of the body undying, the intervention of the actor. Dubstep, Bloodborne, I Kno.

I Kno’s Realist mix is a continuation of Dollmaker’s world. It expands outward, further into dance, and in doing so, gazes from the nightmare at the waking world. Its usage of cut content from the game hints at a reclamation of the unfinished. The absorption of Kavari, Skrillex, OSSIX blends the world of the prior project with the associations of the club. It seems to investigate how once a body is rebuilt from a historical intertextuality, what does it ask of the world that remains, how do they interact and intertwine?

When the Doll addresses the Hunter’s escape from the Dream, players often wander - is the Yharnam to which they return an illusory happiness rewarding serviceable blood-lust? I Kno’s music is realer than the game. The mix suggests an experimental future - a past broken apart and loved, out of which is communicated possibility.
