This song applies verses from the Old Testament book of Judges—which speak of a different kind of resolution—to our experience as believers today.

In Judges 4, the children of Israel had been taken over by another people. The Lord delivered them from their oppression through the prophetess Deborah and the military leader Barak. In preparing for the battle that freed them, Judges 5 mentions that among the divisions of Reuben (one of the tribes of Israel) there were “great resolutions of heart” (v. 15) and “great searchings of heart” (v. 16). Many among the people of Israel “offered themselves willingly” (vv. 2, 9) to the Lord to meet the need of His people.

The times we are living in give many of us the sense that we are in the last days before the Lord’s coming. The Lord’s need and the need of His people are great. Our prayer is that God’s people would have great resolutions in heart to consecrate themselves to Him for the accomplishment His eternal purpose.

It’s a wonderful thing for sinners to believe in the Lord Jesus and receive Him as their Savior. But as soon as we receive the Lord, we may feel pressure to be a certain way in order to to please God or to show others that we’re a proper Christian. Inevitably, we realize that we can’t meet the standard we’ve set up for ourselves, and we get discouraged.

Actually, God created us as vessels so that we can be filled with Him as our content. Referring to the Lord Jesus, 2 Corinthians 4:7 says, “We have this treasure in earthen vessels.” When we’re filled with the Lord, every aspect of our Christian living flows out of His life within us.

The best way to be a Christian is to not to try to behave in a certain way, but to be filled with the Lord by loving Him, calling on His name, and allowing Him to make His home in our heart (Ephesians 3:17). It may sound crazy to tell the Lord a thousand times a day that we love Him, but if you try it, you’ll see the fruit of it in your daily living!

The story of Mary pouring out her costly ointment on the Lord Jesus, told in all four gospels, has stood over the last two millenia as the testimony of one who recognized the supreme preciousness of our Lord. The more we see His value—His worthiness, His peerlessness—the more we are willing to pour ourselves—our time, our energy, our abilities, our possessions—out on Him.
If we have spent youth, talent, career, or status on Him, what is that compared to what He is to us? What more worthy cause or goal could we pursue? As we listen to or sing this song, our prayer is that our sense of value would turn ever more from material and temporal things to the One of eternal worth, to whom are due all praises, honor, and glory!

This song has been around for a while—we wrote the melody in 2009—but we feel like this a capella version touches the feeling of pouring out on the Lord. We hope you enjoy it!

We face decisions every day, big and small, and many times we don’t know which way we should take. Sometimes we find ourselves in unexpected situations—perhaps difficult, painful, or bewildering—things that seem to cast doubt over all our thoughts of the future and leave us fearful, stressed, and anxious.

As believers in Christ, even when we feel like we’re groping in the darkness, we can still look to the Lord Jesus as our way, as our light, and as our supply.

Isaiah 50:10 says, “Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.”

Even more, in John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way and the reality and the life.”

When we don’t know what path to choose, we can cling to Him as our Way. In the words of this song, He is in us, “just waiting for me to say, I love You, Lord.” When we turn to the Lord in this way, He is grace to us and leads us on.

No one has a perfect family. In many of our families—perhaps openly, perhaps privately—there are things that bother us, tensions, or broken relationships. This song is not about changing the past or changing other people; it is a prayer for each of us to be a channel of blessing to our family.

When God saves people, He works by households, or families (Exodus 12:3). In the book of Acts, whole families believed and were baptized together (16:15, 31; 18:8). Even if not every member of a family believes, just one believing family member can bring blessing to all the others (1 Corinthians 7:14, 16).

God wants to bless our families (Malachi 3:10), but whether the blessing reaches them depends on whether there is a channel for the blessing to flow. A channel is simply a way for something to pass from one place to another. We may be the riverbed, the channel, that allows blessing to flow—or we may be a dam, holding back the flow of blessing.

We can’t control what others do or say. But we can choose to be the way for the Lord to come in and be grace, life, light, peace, comfort—and more—to our fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers. Whatever condition our family is in, we can pray, “Lord, make me a channel of blessing to my family.” May the Lord bless all our families!

We’ve all done it—something bad happens, and our first reaction is to say, “Oh no!” But what if we replaced “Oh no!” with “O Lord!”?

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with saying “Oh no!” But when we call “O Lord,” something takes place within us that will never happen with any other exclamation—we contact the Lord Jesus in our spirit and experience Him in the midst of whatever we’re going through.

When we first believed in the Lord Jesus, we were saved in a once-for-all way; now, we can never be condemned by God. But the Lord also wants to save us in a daily way, and we can begin to experience this kind of salvation just by learning to call on His name.

Romans 10:12-13 says, “The same Lord is Lord of all and rich to all who call upon Him; for whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” The apostle Paul, who wrote these verses in Romans, passed through many hardships—for example, he was beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, and imprisoned.

While in prison, he wrote, “I know that for me this will turn out to salvation through your petition and the bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:19). Paul was confident that his terrible situation would turn out to salvation because the believers were praying and because he was contacting the Lord.

Hallelujah, we can be saved in any situation by calling on the Lord!

Most of us have heard some form of the saying, “Make every day count.” For an athlete, that means, “Exercise every day.” For a musician, it means, “Practice your instrument.” But what does it mean for a Christian?

When we believe in the Lord Jesus, our sins are forgiven. But something even more amazing also happens—the Lord Jesus comes into our deepest part, our spirit, causing us to be born with God’s life as children of God (Romans 8:16; John 1:12).

As newborn believers, we all start out as “babes” (1 Peter 2:2), and throughout our Christian life, we need to grow. As we grow, the Lord makes His home in our hearts (Ephesians 3:17)—in other words, He spreads from our spirit into our soul so that we match Him in what we think, how we feel about things, and in the choices we make.

So, as Christians, our days count when we contact the Lord and finish the day with more of God in us than when we got up in the morning.

Of course, we ought to set aside time to read the Bible and pray, meet with other believers, and share the gospel. But there are so many little ways to open up to the Lord and fellowship with Him while we’re in the middle of a plain old, regular day. We can: 
Call on the Lord’s name, “O Lord Jesus”;
Talk to the Lord about whatever is on our mind;
Sing a hymn or spiritual song;
Pray for a friend; or
Confess our sins.

Whatever we do, we have so many ordinary days. Let’s let the Lord into all of our unremarkable daily activities and MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT!

In Ezekiel 34:26, the Lord says, “I will cause the showers to come down in their season; there will be showers of blessing.”

Although God wants to shower us with blessing, we often limit His blessings by hiding from Him, closing our hearts to Him, or allowing our hearts to be filled with so many other things that there isn’t any room for God. All of our experiences of God begin from our heart, so if our hearts are open and emptied, His blessings can flow.

God especially wants to bless us with spiritual blessings (Ephesians 1:3). God’s greatest blessings come when we spend time with Him and He speaks to us through His Word. Whenever we have His personal speaking, God becomes so real to us. No material blessing can compare to this!

May we all open our hearts and linger in God’s presence until His blessings overflow. We can even pray, “Lord, I won’t let You go until You bless me” (Genesis 32:26). May the Lord rain down showers of blessing upon us!
