breaking Da Bassment Demo Tape to the world was one of the coolest, serendipitous events of my life. i've been in love with the crew since i was a kid. the below blog post was my personal love letter to Da Bassment/Swing Mob, but through that i got to meet so many others who share my passion.
i've had it on good authority that some of the members have heard it, & even Timbo himself was told about the tape.
i guess the main reason i put it up at all was for the historical record, so we had SOMEthing these guys n gals worked on together during their formative years at Dahjelon Studios.

*update as of 15/09/2020:
-there are currently two separate efforts by fans to properly re-master and re-release this tape. hopefully we can have a hi-fi version of it sometime soon.
-it was recently confirmed that the girls from Sugah have re-united over the last few years (Tweet, Sue + Rolita), and are currently in the middle of releasing an EP, possibly followed by an album.

Timbaland - Get Down (feat. Playa)

Years ago, with the help of R & B group, Mint Condition, I wrote and performed a theme song for my afternoon radio show in Cincinnati. When I knew I was coming to Louisville, I tweaked it a little.

Then in 2007, during a conversation with the incredible "Static Major", I joked about us actually working in the studio together. Steve being Steve said "why not ?". In his basement studio, we updated the song you hear now. As a testament to his true talent, I actually wrote the last verse where he sings solo, right there in the studio. I only gave him the melody of what I wanted and he absolutely murdered it ! 

I was blessed to be able to watch a real genius at work. My Brother is gone, but I, and in turn, the city of Louisville, will always have this song. 

I would be remiss if I didn't show some love to the announcer at the end of the track. Another wonderful talent I had the good fortune of competing against in Los Angeles back in the 90's and then hiring as the station voice for B-96.5 back then. Tre' Black - THANK YOU for blessing the industry with your gift. Another one of my Brothers taken too soon.

*there is some slight skipping with "Choosey Lover", it's one of the songs playing in the background during the final talk segment. it's a little annoying, but probably moreso now that i've pointed it out.
*2 tracks i purposely omitted from the R. Kelly era were Aaliyah's contributions to the "Summer Bunnies" and "Your Body's Callin'" remixes, both dope jams but was officially where i drew the line cos of how hypersexualised those songs are, and how inappropriate it was having her guest on them.
*"Time" is an unfinished demo and only features one verse from Aaliyah, it then goes on for a while as an instrumental loop. i probably should've cut it for time cos it does get a little repetitive, but i wanted to include the whole track regardless.
