“Glitter” breaks new territory in the realms of cinematic Drumstep with staunch stepping drums holding a growling monsterous bass in place. With the Lily's directorial debut video set to accompany the title track collaboration with Pure Heart alumni MC Astro and J. Augustus drawing inspiration from film noir and chiaroscuro, Glitter takes the first steps into building the visual world of PHDM.

“Grace” dives into more introspective junglist storytelling with deep swelling basslines punctuated by tight, rolling drumwork set against a backdrop of surrealist synth and pads.

“Immure” represents a departure from the norm for Unsub & n0isemakeR and into a more hip-hop influence drumstep experiment that is equal parts dream-state and unrelenting driving bassweight. Switching up to a pensive second half takes the EP into a more inquisitive vibe that rounds out an introspective and more mature direction for the duo.

When I first heard Which Side Are You On it really hit home to me. Being part of the LGBT community, specifically the trans part, the story behind the track really stuck with me. The injustices that we suffer at the hands of other people and society in general, especially my Brothers & Sisters of colour, cut to the deepest parts of my heart. Cece McDonald is finally out of the prison which she should never have been in, its a small step in the right direction and sometimes we can only celebrate the small victories. B.Dolan was kind enough to let me remix this track after I spoke to him about how much it meant to me. His choice to stand in solidarity and support of those on the right side of history is yet another reason I have so much love and respect for him as an artist and a decent human being.

Thought I would give it a go. All the instrumentation (piano, strings, trumpets) were played live via keyboard. has my favourite melodies too. The piano drop at around 2mins is my favourite :-)

Reiko Che - Nicco (Alexis K) [Temper D] *

Unsub's 4th solo album release on PHDM features a journey from Dub, through breaks and into Dnb. The incorporation of live instrumentation can be heard throughout this 13 track LP. One only has to look at the label’s previous releases of “Hypnogogia” or “Drama” with its eiree guitar and soulful piano to hear what has quickly become a tradition for the label, firmly planting it’s feet in both the analog and digital worlds.

The first track brings the State of Play VIP a collaboration between Unsub and label head Alexis K, serving brooding dark warehouse vibes to the dance floor. As Unsub explains, "Returning to the source of our first collaboration felt like the right way to reconnect with our shared history. Alexis K is the reason we do what we do. She is an expert musician, and when she started encouraging me to explore, I knew we had to collaborate. It took the better part of 5 years for that to happen but here we are, the 10th anniversary of it!"

Rare Candy is an exploration of rhythmic flows; from the captivating toms and tribal work of "Sunstones", the emotive textures of the "Butcher of a Silk Button", all the way through to the aptly named "Immersive", evoking imagery of the secret warehouse raves it was born in. Rounding out the release with a deep liquid meditation on "Twisted Freqs".

Volume 1 is the first in the series of multi-genre artist explorations known as Rare Candy.
