HRDF: How did you find this track, any particular reason why you chose this one to edit?
ZOMBIES IN MIAMI: Well... I (Cani) found it long time ago, it was around 98 with my cousin Carlos in Mexico. It's one of my favs... I was trying to do my first edit with a Mano Negra song. Here is the result.

HRDF: What would you do if you weren’t making music?
ZOMBIES IN MIAMI: (Jenouise) I could be involved in administration or something in a office. (Cani) Would be awesome to be a professional golfer haha. 

HRDF: Any favourite place in town?
ZOMBIES IN MIAMI: Our favorite place in town is our home. The most pacific place in town with our happy cat Frodo.

HRDF: What is your favourite saying?
ZOMBIES IN MIAMI: It's Animo! (Spanish). It means like Let’s go! Or to be positive always.

Cochemea Gastelum is coming home to connect with his roots. After nearly 15 years of touring the world with Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, the saxophonist offers a deeply personal album of jazz and indigenous-influenced rhythms. All My Relations is 10 tracks of mesmerizing and spiritually ascendant instrumentation. 

A California native with Yaqui and Mescalero Apache Indian ancestry, Cochemea grew up surrounded by music - both his parents were musicians, and they gave their son a heavy name meaning “they were all killed asleep.” Cochemea has spent much of his diverse musical career – as a soloist, musical director, composer and ensemble player – exploring and iterating on roots music, and All My Relations is a capstone meditation on his own ancestry.

Due to be released digitally next week, the 8-track hip hop album is brimming with collaborations from artists spanning the globe and casts a contemporary eye over old school hip hop production. Though inspirations from jazz and Madlib are clearly evident, there is enough fresh experimentation to distinguish it from the era while still keeping the nostalgic old school glow.   Though the A1 track, ‘The Sound ft. Brownstudy’ lasts just shy of two and a half minutes, the song makes up for it fleeting run time through the casual flow and mesmerising lyrics of the Motor Town vocalist, Brownstudy - it’s one for the old school heads.

We welcome Ed Longo and his studio project The Applied Arts Ensemble debut on Early Sounds with “The Other Fantasy”, the result of many recording sessions that took place in different places around Europe with an array of musicians from a predominantly jazz background.
Conceived with a strong jazz-funk, fusion and boogie approach, the record is conceptualized around the quest for Otherness in the schizophrenia of the digital age, and the resulting exotic dystopias which we are confronted with every day.
