I wrote this two and a half years ago, but despite what you might think, it isn't about you.  It's pretty much about anyone and everyone that got stuck somewhere and never left and at times they wonder how different things might be if they made different decisions.  Or wait... maybe it is about you.

Too Big for a Small Town

Back in 2017 I helped my buddy move out to California and drove from Louisville, KY to Laguna, CA.  We stayed in Vail, Colorado a few days with a friend of his, and one day while that friend was at work, my buddy decided to take a hike to the top of the closest mountain.  I ate a couple of chocolate bars and cranked out 3 songs before he got back.  This is the pop-punkish one.  If it reminds you of something you've heard before, GOOD THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT.

I wrote this back in college when I was maybe 20 after breaking up with my girlfriend.  I never played it for her or told her about it and almost forget it entirely until I found the lyrics scribbled on a piece of paper crumpled down in the bottom of my gig-bag about a month ago.  No harmonies, no solos, no layers or frills, just a simple acoustic song that was my release and confession to get through that phase.

EMPTY HANDS

This song was written about leaving my hometown and friends to start a new life out west.  The first half starts slow and is about the thoughts and feelings I had as I processed the massive life change about to take place... then the beat drops and the second half is about my excitement and optimism in knowing that no matter where I go, I'll find my way, make friends, and it'll feel like home.  This is my anthem.

Feels Like Home

We all make mistakes, but in the past I've had a bad habit of dwelling on mine long past the point the people I think I might have upset have totally forgotten about it.  I'm working on that.  No one thinks about you as much as you do, but it's still hard not to feel anxious when someone you've been talking to often goes radio silent after you do something stupid.  These lyrics are deeply personal.  Shout out if you've ever felt this way too.

All the words to this song popped in my head as soon as I came up with the chord progression.  I was happy, but the words were sad and seemed to fit.
