I produced this record specifically to play at the Shrine in LA in early 2020 (which turned out to be a few weeks before the world shut down). It was written as a tongue in cheek story partly inspired by my first car, an old Camry that collects dust in Melbourne while I’m away on tour. I wasn’t sure what to do with the record when dance floors paused around the world. But I’ve received requests for it every other day since. All things considered, I figured it’s probably time to get it out there into the world. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed giving it a rev on the dance floor.

In the distant reaches of the desolate NovoSektor-9, the unthinkable has occurred. The infamous Erebium Reactor, stationed deep within the forbidden zone of Kalardyn, has fallen victim to an INES 8-level nuclear catastrophe. The night sky is painted with ominous glows as alarms scream through abandoned urban shells. The ground shakes, and the atmosphere crackles with radioactive dread. An immediate call is issued, summoning the elite unit of anti-contamination operatives known as the “Spectra Strike Division.” This is not just a reconnaissance mission; they are warriors draped in shadows, each step accompanied by the pulse of techno rhythms resonating through their headsets.

As they advance through the twisted wreckage, every beat matches their breath. Thick suits and gas masks shield them, but their purpose burns fiercely. The haunting soundscape fills the void left by civilization. It’s said that the nuclear meltdown might not be an accident but a merciless act of aggression from a rogue group of mercenaries known as the “Crimson Shadow.” The Spectra Strike Division knows this terrain well; they’re trained to navigate not only the physical decay but the mental descent that accompanies it.

Armed with the latest detection equipment and their instinctive combat training, they traverse through a city locked in perpetual silence. Every corner might reveal danger; every flicker could be the echo of enemies hiding within the smog of radiation. But they march on, each track infusing them with determination, syncing their movements, and sharpening their minds to the relentless beat of techno. The soundtrack pulses through, transforming fear into fuel as they embark on a mission that might alter the course of survival itself.

Hamburg based producer Hatzler’s EP is crafted to keep the dancefloor moving, with two original tracks and two remixes. ‘SkyT’ unfolds with a rolling groove that ascends abruptly into a throbbing, trance-inducing piece peppered with cavernous synth pads. ‘KreaT’ lays down hard hitting thumps from the get-go, doling out an undulating synth with whirring atmospherics. It’s these whirs that end up combining harmoniously with the swirling synth hook, leading to a highly anticipated peak time release. For his ‘SkyT’ remix, Sian amps up the theatrics, giving the track a dramatic dimension by infusing it with spacious reverb. Where Sian went down a more theatrical avenue, Ruiz plays down the emotion.  Victor Ruiz’ take on ‘SkyT’ is a more stripped down approach, minimizing the elements and keeping the focus on the rolling bassline.

The Jam & Spoon remix of Age of Love is without a doubt one of the real classics of electronic music. A classic I occasionally played over the last years.
And if it hadn’t been for Renaissance Records, asking me to be part of this project for their 25 years anniversary Compilation it wouldn’t have crossed my mind to remix a Trance classic. 
It was definitely a big challenge, but also an honor.
