But I'd rather living here living in the present with you.

Father comes home every evening. Looking so debonair. He puts I Love Lucy on the TV set and lies around in his underwear. Empty beer cans strewn about. It’s the antithesis of Better Homes and Gardens. He lights up another cigarette and inhales the hydrocarbons. And he scratches his belly and he says to himself life is good I should feel blessed. But there’s a twinge of pain in his stomach and lately work has got him stressed.

I’m glad I wasn’t around in 1952. I’d rather living here in the present with you. The old people reminisce about all the things they miss.  I’m glad I wasn’t around in 1952.  
Mother has her hair up in curlers. As she cleans up the household mess. And when her husband comes home tonight she’ll greet him in a pretty dress. She reads good housekeeping diligently looking for the latest advice. But sometimes she feels like a character who’s living in a fool’s paradise. And  she’s striving for an ideal that is impossible to achieve. And there’s an itch that she keeps on scratching but there’s no way to relieve.

Nice houses in the suburbs.  Bomb shelters in every backyard.  People driving their American built gas guzzlers down the boulevard.

Junior wears his coonskin cap and he likes to shoot his BB gun. He used to play cowboys and Indians but now fighting communists is more fun. At school the kids practice duck and cover so they can survive the H bomb. In ten more years if he survives he’ll be fighting off in Vietnam. And sometimes he has nightmares where he dreams about the start of world war three. Cause lately it feels like he might be living through the end of history.

I’m glad I wasn’t around in 1952. I’d rather living here in the present with you. It may have been good for some. But not for everyone. I’m glad I wasn’t around in 1952.

I am drawn to folk, blues, soft rock, and country music, new and old. I love songs that tell a story, especially the Irish, English, and Scottish ballads of long ago because their stories are often timeless, and most everyone at any time can relate to. 
 
I also am a pastel painter and find being able to express universal emotions through my art, as well as writing lyrics and putting them to music that I can sing and play on my guitar or ukelele so rewarding and comforting.
