Joanne was inspired to write this by a beautiful children's book about friendship by Ruth Krauss.  As we hear the news about the discovery of more indigenous children’s graves  many hearts are breaking across this country.   It’s time to pause and listen and acknowledge as Canada Day approaches. OUR LOVE

This song is an exploration of the cycle of the Christmas moon which happens only every 19 years but for some reason between 1977 and 2015, due to leap year interference, missed showing up at Christmas in 1996. Victorian women, so folklore suggests, prayed to the New Moon to find their soulmates. This song is the story of a woman who talks to the moon about how her faith in it has been challenged and then restored.

I wrote this song as a result of attending the Southern Songwriters Association Zoom meeting last week. They are friends from South Carolina that I met at Swannanoa Music Camp years ago. Thanks to Steve Simpson for the invite to the group, and to Kim for incredible harmonies!  This song can have many meanings, it initially was about my love of living in the country, and how much I miss it, somehow it kind of turned into a song of reconciliation/forgiveness. She has written a volume of songs about the life and times of Bill Mason, Canada's premier canoeist, documentary film-maker and palette-knife painter, called "Alone in a Red Canoe."
