Linear Drum & Bass Podcast 006 (Neuro / Jump Up / Dancefloor / Liquid)

Covering the whole spectrum of drum and bass (and beyond) in this month’s podcast we begin with A.M.C’s huge VIP of ‘Thor’, been waiting a long time to get my hands on that. Then comes ‘Architect’ by Invadhertz, intense forthcoming neuro on Delta9 Recordings. Things move through a number of cracking liquid tracks by Exploid, Semi Sense, Contra and Mindloader. Things take a heavier turn with Klinical & Objectiv delivering serious deep power in their free release ‘Alive’. Boombassbrothers provide a great unofficial remix of Break’s recent classic, followed by Dyrekt’s wobble-filled collaboration with Heritage. Ziz & Doc Logic turn things up further with ‘What Am I’ and Manta & Screamarts give us some straight up neuro on their free release ‘Rapture’. D.Side brings things down to a deeper, minimal level with his fantastic track ‘Disposed’ before we move through a number of liquid tracks and jazz inspired instrumentals, finishing with Break’s incredible remix of Technimatic’s ‘Bristol’.

Having cut his teeth at raves around the country, Danny de Reybekill (under his DJ alias GHAIA) found his way into radio and started the Brum & Bass show nearly three years ago now. Welcome to the first label takeover of the Linear Podcast! I’m very happy to hand over the controls to Delta9 Recordings from Italy. They’ve been impressing for a long time now with a string of huge releases. First up representing the label is Sl8r, a regular on the Manchester D&B scene for the past five years and a producer who has been making waves recently with releases on RSTLSSNSS, Delta9 and Skankandbass. Already gaining support from artists like Noisia, Fre4knc, Rene LaVice as Akomplis. His minimal basslines rumble throughout the dancefloor. With a schedule of releases already planned out for the rest of the year, he is one to watch out for in the scene.

Linear Drum & Bass Podcast 019 (With Retrakt Guestmix)

This month’s podcast comes to you by way of Detached Audio, a label which has been impressing for a while now with the breadth of their output and ability to showcase new sounds across the bass music spectrum.

Taking control for the first 30 mins is DJ, producer and DNB Dojo owner Hex. Hailing from England but based in Glasgow for the last 14 years, Hex has been DJing around Scotland since 2010 and holds a residency at Glasgow's longest running Drum & Bass night, Symbiosis. Over the past few years Hex has provided support for the likes of Icicle, Dillinja, Remarc, Chimpo, Equinox and Robyn Chaos and has graced the decks at Central Beatz, Electrikal, Jungle Nation, Rarewave, Liquid Funktion, Roots, Basstonik, Junglism, Transit, as well as plenty of appearances at locations around Scotland’s busy summer festival season.

Busy in the studio as well since 2012, Hex’s original productions have found widespread support in the underground scene with releases on Detached Audio along with labels such as Black Tuna, Celsius, Free Love Digi, Transmission Audio, Sub:mission Audio, IDMf and more. With an appreciation for all sounds and styles, his productions vary from minimal rollers to jungle smashers, dark tech to melodic liquid and more.

Closing out the hour is Detached Audio label boss K2T take to the controls. K2T is a young electronic music producer, and label manager at Detached Audio, primarily releasing soulful Drum & Bass, in addition to a variety of styles such as hip hop and house music. 
 
Having only started making music in April 2017, K2T has had a steady stream of noteworthy releases, including his debut ‘Starscape EP’, 'Lush Life EP' with Option and most recently, 'Rwenzori EP' with Sirus which came our just last week. His productivity has led to him receiving a wealth of support from Dexcell, Alien Pimp, D Flect, Emplate and many more.

K2T shows no sign of slowing down; with a number of labels turning their heads towards him and word on the horizon he's working on his debut LP, this is one name to keep an eye on.

Linear Drum & Bass Podcast 020 (Detached Audio Takeover)

It’s once again time for a selection of the best new and forthcoming drum & bass! There’s even some of my own new music in there, and for the second half I’m joined by DJ and producer Nomad.

Having started his career 4 years ago in Bristol, 22 y/o Nomad relocated at the end of 2017 to Berlin, and has since spent 2018 slugging the quintessential Bristol sound upon the masses of the German capital. Inspired by the likes of DLR, Alix Perez, Arkaik & Amoss, Nomadʼs signature is rolling waves of ethereal pads accompanied by the sluggish undercurrents of thick throbbing bass. This year he had the opportunity several times to play at the famed Berlin Cassiopeia club and saw him releasing on FUCK ABOUT! DnB and Ambush Audio.

2018 also saw the conception and rise of “FUCK ABOUT! Drum & Bass”, a Bristol-based club night & record label co-founded by Nomad alongside fellow DJʼs Analogue, Grax & Tactician. Rising from out of nowhere, FUCK ABOUT! has seen a string of successful nights beginning featuring the likes of Shyun, Data 3, Revaux, Javano. Their launch of the label also found great success in June with their debut on “Cluster Fuck 001”, featuring Spokeʼs track “Knock Off” which peaked at #4 on the Hypeddit charts & has now reached over 12K plays on Soundcloud. “Cluster Fuck 002” is due for release by the end of the year and the label has a host of exciting releases lined up for 2019 including EPs from Javano, Dedman & Koax.

After the success of his track 'It's Jazz Half The Time', which released last year alongside standout tracks on Differential Recordings and Modular Carnage Recordings, Detached Audio is proud to welcome Linear back to the label for his debut EP. This EP shows the maturity of this rising artist's sound, while also showcasing why he is a name to watch.

Up first, 'Droplets' is the classic, quirky but deep sound we've come to love from Linear. A bouncy lead hook coupled with piano trills and saxophones give us an infectious track suitable for both the dancefloor and at-home listening.

'Icebreaker' follows this, with Linear bringing in the talents of label boss K2T- and their collaborative effort resulting in a funky dancefloor smasher. Rugged basslines, with the occasional glimpse of guitars and brass make this a track that perfectly blends different styles of Drum & Bass together.

The title track, 'Peripheral Vision' offers a deeper and calmer vibe in this EP. Skittish percussion is coupled with mellow hooks and strings to showcase how Linear can easily explore varying styles and emotions in his music.

To close the EP off, Linear displays his talent in other genres with 'Unknowing'- a downtempo soother that still carries his signature sound effortlessly.

Linear has seen a monumental amount of success over the last few months, with support throughout the scene. This EP adds another string to his diverse bow of releases, and will only catapult him further in to the limelight.

We proudly welcome back Linear to the label after his excellent "Peripheral Vision" EP with the equally as fantastic follow-up, the "Lost In Sight" EP. This EP sees Linear delivering 4 of his best solo works to date, perfect both for DJing and home listening.

Up first, Linear makes his comeback with the aptly-titled 'Return'. This track picks up where his previous EP left off and is the perfect balance of energy and soul, as Linear does best.
