The highly anticipated P. Ross! [Jetpack/Seattle] stops by the SOUND METAPHORS studios tonight to wash the brain with an eccentric collage of ecstatic electric experiments. 

 “Be passionate, not serious,” P. Ross! asserts cooly. In sound artistry, often we can hear similarities in the way one speaks about their art, and in the nuances through which they actually execute it… in this case, we find track transitions that spontaneously change the mood with both assertion and grace, allowing the listener to surrender freely to the sonic journey being unfolded before them, comforted by a sense of carelessness and trust for what comes next. Overall through the mix and our interview, there is a sense of raw honesty, which takes away any expectation for “performance” and leaves only genuine interest behind.

“With DJing my biggest problem is restraint,” P. Ross! mentions, “just like in video games. I find myself going for that one extra swing and then I’m out of stamina to roll. I also have trouble with self motivation always, in every facet of my existence forever and it’s big exacerbated during covid.” 
 ~
 “I knew I wanted to DJ as soon as I discovered raving fresh into high school; luckily I had a few opportunities to spin for a couple years. Otherwise I might be spinning progressive trance or wook wubs or something. Met the dormant secondnature kids at Ye Olde Photosynthesis festival who would end up immersing me in the more ‘underground’ ‘techno’ side of things and show me the ropes on the decks. Rest is history.”

 P. Ross! is a record collector as well as a producer of their own, with a few projects simmering prior to release. Collab projects under the names “JamRat” and “Corvid Crew” have existing releases, and recently the artist worked on a local Alex Carrabba record, mastering alongside D.Dan and providing a UK-garage-reminiscent remix with skippy attitude.  A question we are commonly asking our featured guests this season is about what they personally view the “job of a DJ” as being—this is the response of P. Ross:  
~
 “I could write an incomprehensible book on this.  Also there's the question of like, job vs. purpose.  Because stocking apples is mundane but feeding your community is divine.  So as a job I'd say a DJ needs to understand and have a personal connection to their purpose, the music they spin as well as the moment/space they occupy - with the ability to adapt and relate to the people they share that space with.”

 “For me, purpose lies primarily in radicalizing the senses - that is breaking out of western visual dogma.  Guy Debord can explain it more eloquently:  
~
 ‘…The spectacle inherits the weakness of the Western philosophical project, which attempted to understand activity by means of the categories of vision, and it is based on the relentless development of the particular technical rationality that grew out of that form of thought. The spectacle does not realize philosophy, it philosophizes reality, reducing everyone’s concrete life to a universe of speculation…’

 “So basically, to me we are conditioned to be out of touch with ourselves, eachother, the world etc. and a great way to get shaken out of the daze is to get fuckin turnt and bug out to music that is loud enough to feel.”

When asked to explain a certain vision behind the music, P. Ross! responded adequately:

 “Fuck visual mediums all my homies hate visual mediums.”

Hi friends,

I’m very excited about our mix today - it comes from Catalina, a DJ hailing from Romania, now based in Brussels. 

Catalina’s propulsive, break heavy and future-focused mixes are an enormously good time. She has a modern digger’s ear for unearthing some of the tastiest club workouts, and remains unafraid of allowing otherworldly sonics to enter from stage left. 

Catalina honed her craft in London, holding court in clubs like XOYO, Corsica Studios and Printworks, as well as community stations Balamii and the late 199radio. Now back in Brussels, she continues her contribution to the vibrant local scene, mixing for Kiosk Radio, the Word, and collectives Club Dramatik, Queer Future, C12 and nacht. In addition to her mixes, Catalina has begun making tracks of her own, the first of which will appear on a Greenpeace x DJs for Climate Action compilation out later this summer. 

Bliss Point is very glad to welcome Catalina to the series with 82 minutes of the DJ and budding producer in top form.
