An arbitrary and non-scientific system of transposing data gathered from the University of Florida into a sonic portrait of the space and its functioning.
Two sets of numbers gleaned from the campus at large (e.g., year of founding, total square footage…) and the student body (gender ratio, nationality distribution...) are input into a frequency generator to produce sine waves. The resulting tones are used to compose a sonic diptych that reveals the interactions between the pitches – frequency beating, cancellations and other interferences that make physical this abstract information. What does it sound like to play the number of graduate students and the length of the annual dance marathon together?

telix y(e)arn  is a sound installation with a mechanical apparatus made from the motor, gears and rollers of a deconstructed fax machine that advances a musical graphic score in the form of a looped scroll. Wall-mounted, photo-sensitive sound modules are triggered as light shines through patterns cut into the scroll.

These are the sounds that are in the installation. Each track is recorded onto its own sound module and speaker.

The composition is made from processed electromagnetic sounds collected around the building of the Arts Club of Chicago combined with field recordings.

photosonic thrust

An improvised set for light-sensitive synthesizer and electro-magnetic interference with projection.

ruby is a handmade, 3-oscillator synthesizer whose frequencies are modulated by the light levels of a harvested CRT baby monitor (with wireless camera).
Adding a harmonic/drone element is a set of voltage-mismatched power supplies and a transformer (the unsounds), whose electromagnetic frequencies are amplified and processed.
