Beatservice Records welcome back Third Attempt, with the fast-rising artist stepping up to remix his very own 'Sunbeam Symphony'.

The trip-hop themed original version appeared on Third Attempt's brilliant album 'The Novel Sound', with the sparkling club rework poised to introduce the music to all-new audiences.

Beyond any shadow of a doubt, Torje Fagertun Spilde – better known as Third Attempt – has been one of the most intriguing young artists to emerge in recent years. Showing a musical understanding that belies his young age, he breezily glides through genres with his carefully woven productions. His sound appears to evolve with every new release, as Beatservice Records continue to provide a nurturing platform from which he can freely develop his craft.

Here, he exhibits yet another string to his production bow, serving a gorgeously atmospheric and club remix of 'Sunbeam Symphony'. Though the hazy vibrations of the original echo through the new version in the form of the sun-drenched chords and floating motifs, the music is effortlessly reframed with dancefloors firmly in mind. Formed over a crisp house rhythm, the melodic refrains take on new life as psychedelic leads and subtle synth textures elegantly combine over sublime bass notes. The child's vocal resonates through the track, with Spilde displaying his finely-tuned knack for repurposing spoken word samples to evocative effect.

Blissful, dreamy, and with added kinetic weight, the club remix is sure to breathe new life into the already sublime 'Sunbeam Symphony'.

‘1905' was written about the failed 1905 Russian Revolution, and it finds the Marxists Love Disco Ensemble at their poppiest. Sounding like a cassette freshly discovered in a time capsule, ‘1905' has an early 80's cross-over pop-new wave sound. The song is influenced greatly by Boban Petrović and other ex-Yugoslav disco songs. It features the pianist on vocals and they are reminiscent of Orange Juice and Chas Jankel. They play a glorious accompaniment to the dreamy, female backing vocals underpinning the song. At its backbone, the production edges towards Italo disco, with a driving synth bass, bubbling keys, crispy punchy beats, with many instruments put through the Roland Space Echo. This one is designed for the club as much as the radio.

Shoreline is a groovy dance-track inspired by jazz and funk. Quite satisfied with the flow and feel. It features one of my favourite sounds, the rhodes piano, accompanied with a funky bass line and some field recordings from a nearby beach. Hope you like it!

On the sixth document of their vinyl-only V/A series ‘EXCURSIONS’, Josiah Hartley’s Phuture Shock label continues its quest to seek and showcase both new and established talent from the adventurous depths of the dance music underground and beyond. Assembling four tracks by a quartet of artists spanning the globe from Brazil to Germany, UK via France and the USA, this versatile collection of dancefloor-orientated cuts largely focuses on the many diverse shades of contemporary deep house.

Leading the charge is Brazilian DJ/producer Nørus, one of São Paulo’s most promising new house music exports on the verge of breaking through, who makes his debut outing on wax with the heavily supported ‘Make A Move’. This dancefloor weapon has been heating up the underground as a digital dubplate – particularly within the international ‘lo-fi’ house scene - for the best part of 18 months, and here finally finds a home for an official physical release. Another fresh face, or rather lesser known talent named Sloppy J is also welcomed into the fold. With one sole release (‘My Jams’ EP) under his belt to date, the low-key Berlin-based Canadian, who also moonlights under the alias Jonattan Levingstone, offers up his first new output since said EP, released on Montreal imprint Parages Music back in 2016. Making a welcome return, albeit in a remixed presence is Nottingham producer Cyclonix, with a track that first appeared in its original form on ‘EXCURSIONS # 3’. But here gets given a new lease of life from Parisian DJ/producer and D.Ko records co-owner Flabaire, who alongside his label mates, has proved to be a leading light of the revived French house scene in the past few years. Completing the dynamic cast is Ugandan-born, Connecticut/Berlin-based veteran DJ and producer Jenifa Mayanja. Widely known in deep house circles for her efforts on the likes of Underground Quality, Deep ArtSounds, and the three labels she co-helms - Bumako recordings, Sound Warrior and EDJ Records - here she contributes something that taps into her more leftfield impulses.
