Singer-songwriter Grayson Hugh wrote his song  "Angels On My Side" after having a dream about his Welsh grandfather Ralph Pugh (Pictured above, with  his original surname before he changed it to Hugh after immigrating to the States). "I was very close to my father's father, who I called Papa. He was a big tall Welshman with a deep voice and he always encouraged me in whatever I did. One night I went to sleep worried about everything: money, love, my musical career, the whole show. I dreamed Papa told me "not to worry, Grayson, as long as you keep following your heart and working hard, everything will be just fine. I woke up with tears on my face, and wrote this song."

In 1990, RCA asked me and my producers to do a hip hop/rap version of "Talk It Over". Seems there was a demand for this in nightclubs and the "urban" audience (aka people who like funky music). 
So we did. Michael Baker scratched his head and conceptualized, Axel Kroell sampled, scratched and programmed away, and I recorded some new vocal parts. Michael and Axel enlisted the contribution of a young female rapper from Texas. I wasn't in the studio when she recorded her rap, and Axel and Michael can't remember her name, so for years I didn't know the identity of the "mystery rap girl from Texas".  But she just recently messaged me on Instagram. Her name is ShelleyAnn Zambardi Hineline (Check out her Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/theshelleyah/). She goes by "theShelleyAH" (aka Shell E).
So it's good to finally be able to chat with her about that song after so many years.  Axel told me that she "did not look at all like a rapper, and when she opened her mouth to sing, our jaws dropped". 
A fan in England recently sent me this track, recorded from his vinyl copy, hence the authentic-sounding pops and scratches. No other "cleaner" copies exist, as far as I know. 
So, ladies and gentlemen, I submit, for your amusement, the "Girlfriend Beats Back" Mix of my hit "Talk It Over".

Whenever I played Memphis, I'd stay at The Peabody Hotel In 1990, the owner of Sun Studios gave me a private tour of the place. We talked about the possibility of recording there. A great city, with a great musical history. Where Country meets the Blues, and becomes Rock 'Roll. Sometimes it stays Blues. And sometimes it stays Soul.
