Polyester started performing under different pseudonyms in 2007, at gothic and post-punk parties. For the past few years, the music he has been playing has ranged from post-punk to EBM and various intersections inspired by these genres. Since 2011, Vaidotas has also been an event organizer - his events are based on eclecticism as much as the music he’s playing. He had a great opportunity to bring to Lithuania not only electronic artists, but also projects such as Swans, King Dude or Jozef van Wissem. He has been working on and organizing following event series - Švytėjimai, Synthezia, and most recent - I Lost My Leather jacket. He was also the Platforma program manager.

Leeds-based Chug Club have a passion for all things slow and strange. They run psy-club nights, a chillout residency at Outlaws Yacht Club and have a slot on Alto Radio. All aimed at creating accessible spaces and experiences for the sounds, cultures and artists they love. 

For this mix they enter a trip-hop dub-tinged rabbit hole, embarking on a chug journey which welcomes all for the ride.

‘Layers’ strikes again, this time with a refreshing wave of perfectly-balanced musical flavours and rhythmical patterns to wash over your ears on these brain-melting hot summer days. Delivered by Beesmunt Sound System - two sonic pilgrims, constantly on the move both physically - travelling to play in the farthest corners of the world - and creatively - exploring the depths and breadths of the musical realm, and transforming this knowledge into kaleidoscopic audible experiences. 

1. You’re known as the alchemists of electronic music. Your sets can be described as potent mixtures of exotic aesthetics and sounds. However, all these diverse music styles probably didn’t secure their place in your musical palette overnight (let’s not forget that BSS sprang out of hip-hop parties, and your tastes have gradually evolved over the years). Can you remember which were the last genres or styles to finally grow on you?

Yes very true, 10 years ago we were very strict on ourselves, playing only 90's style hip-hop and everything else in music was sort of a no go for us. If you would have told us back then about the many aesthetics and sounds our mixes comprise of nowadays we wouldn't have believed you. So back to the present day, we've sort off been going back to this rhythm and beats per minute like some hip-hop records had back then, slowing things down on the dancefloor feels very natural to us because of our history with it. Also, not necessarily a recent development, but embracing our adventurous nature when we started playing as BSS has been a big part in our growth as DJ's. Not excluding ourselves from genres or a BPM we have to stick to. We try to realize and love the feeling of always being unpredictable and surprising within our sets, we'd rather play 'weirder' music we love for 50 people as opposed to banging hits to a thousand. 


2. One more on this topic. Just really curious, what was the most random track you pulled off in a mix/ DJ set? I suppose you might feel adventurous sometimes.

Adventure is our middle name. Not really random since we do take it all pretty serious, but here's some tracks that create confusion in good ways while playing it for a full club..

3. Must-do things/places to visit in Amsterdam for an electronic music enthusiast?

Pay a visit to Garage Noord at night, visit the Red Light Radio/Records headquarters or enjoy a listening session in their store. But also do a lot of non-electronic music related things like eat some Haring or fresh Oysters at the Saturday market, go to snack bar Jelle for some fries or take a trip around Amsterdam with us on our family boat.


4. If Amsterdam wasn’t an option anymore, which other city you could see as the perfect place to live and create?


Luigi: Fluvia! For the friends who know or want to know, give me a ring! 

David: NYC or Paris, cheesy maybe, but I love both cities and there I'll be able to find the most in what I love about Amsterdam too. I feel like I'll always need a bit of big-city rawness around me (although in Amsterdam this is quickly disappearing, sadly) but also just a place to get lost in and be inspired by all sorts of street scenes.


5. Before we immerse ourselves in your freshly assembled LAYERS mix, any special recommendations on how to enjoy it to the fullest?

We support total freedom for those who listen to the mix, before a party, after a party, in bed, while cooking, whatever... just know we made it with love and tried to create the best representation and narrative between all elements of our musical world as BSS.
