Bwlch Llanberis means Llanberis Pass.  It allows travellers to cross the Snowdonia Mountains from the south-east to Llanberis, over Pen-y-Pass, between the mountain ranges of the Glyderau and the Snowdon massif. At the bottom of the pass is the small village of Nant Peris, clustered round the ancient church of Saint Peris.

Dolbadarn Castle stands guard at the Llanberis end of the pass above Llyn Padarn.  It dates to the 13th century and was built by Llywelyn ap Iorwerth.
