After a year-long break, LionDub45 returns with a stellar new release from Brooklyn based producer Ticklah featuring stand-out vocals from Jamaica’s Courtney John. Both artists should need no introduction - as a founding member of the Dap Kings, Antibalas, and the Easy Star All-Stars, Victor Axelrod spreads his work across hip hop, funk, soul, and African rhythms, working with artists like Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse and Estelle, but his more rootical vibrations are saved for his Ticklah productions. Courtney John is a celebrated Jamaican vocalist who has worked extensively with Sly & Robbie on their Silent River label and the UK based Peckings camp.  Courtney's sweet falsetto style evokes the classic era of lover’s rock and early dancehall. It’s easy to hear Axelrod’s funk roots in the guitar and organ licks on the vocal version of “Born to Fly”, and the busy production is filled out by a precision guitar skank, bubbling bass, and a spare percussion palette while maintaining a vintage roots feel. Courtney chants his lover’s song high over the rest with the poetry and clarity that has earned him his fame. On the dub, a liquid bass leads the drastically reduced rhythm as expert echo treatments of the drums and pads propel the deep, heads-down groove. Ticklah and Courtney John provide two perfect sides for lovers of classic roots reggae and dub with a strictly conscious and positive message. LionDub45 is proud to bring New York and Jamaica together once again for it's fourth release.

The Album was recorded and mixed by Nick Manasseh at the Yard Studios in West London.

Vin reinvents his 1968 early reggae classic 'Heavenless' for the intro & title track, before taking us on a journey through new compositions, departing only on track 4 to revisit a tune he played on in 1974 at King Tubby's studio for Yabby You, old friend and sparring partner Tommy McCook's deep roots instrumental 'Revenge', this time complete with extended dubwise mixdown.

Out now on 'Super Ape Returns To Conquer' album! Zion’s Blood [Length: 4:24 Tempo: 67/134bpm Key: A minor ] The roots of the mystic spiritual vibes Scratch conjured up from Africa and was known to have instilled in the likes of Bob Marley are here combined with Subatomic Sound’s pulsing 21st century sub bass and 909 kick drums guaranteed to rattle massive bass bins like the latest trap or dubstep track while maintaining  a deep meditation.  “Zion’s Blood is flowing through my vein, and I&I shall never work in vein/ African blood is flowing through my vein/ and I&I will never fade away” is repeated like a mantra throughout the song, upending typical song structure and in many ways capturing the essence of Scratch’s creativity and ideology, reclaiming his lost African history through musical production, inventing the genres of reggae and dub to establish his reputation, but refusing even at 81 years old to stop innovating.  Rebuilding this song with no samples from the original, it was critical to capture the magic of the original like the introductory heavy tom toms and whistle that announce the arrival of the Super Ape and the majestic African horns signal the royal Emperor H.I.M. Selassie who Scratch claims to be his spiritual twin (notice the resemblance of their faces).  The Wes Montgomery style guitar lines in the original are further developed here by Emch and the regal horns lines, though produced in gritty and vintage Black Ark fashion, are pushed to the forefront to pump up the energy and highlight the African roots of the composition.

‘Harder’ is the debut single from Soul Revivers and features Jamaican master guitarist Ernest Ranglin.

Soul Revivers are reggae veteran DJ and producer Nick Manasseh and David Hill of the Ballistic Brothers and Rootikal.

The track, which has tough rhythm topped with Ranglin’s wonderfully fluid guitar and tight horns section, and has already received support from Gilles Peterson who said, ‘This is special, return of the great Ernest Ranglin’, and David Rodigan, 'This is superb, so refreshing and so unique. Ernest Ranglin on top form’.
