After dropping several tracks and performing at select festivals throughout the years, Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen dedicated the year 2014 to explore the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos.

By focusing solely on their self-titled debut album, Ólafur and Janus have been able to combine and further develop their unique sound aesthetics to complete an album driven by their mutual love for electronic music. Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, a majority of the album was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesisers, drum machines and tape delays. It features a live drummer, string quartet and Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable record. If you listen closely, you can spot them record the thumb piano, finger snapping and even the sound of the metal grinder of a lighter slowly to replace the usual electronic hi-hat sounds, giving the album a far more intimate and unique atmosphere.

“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. I touch a lot on electronic genres in my own music but never have the opportunity to go full out electronic like we do here.” – Ólafur Arnalds

So when we early this year finally found the time to sit down and make a full length album there was so much we wanted to try out. The result surprised us a bit, it's deeper and more emotional than we imagined it to be, but that's the beauty of being able to make an album.” – Janus Rasmussen

Kiasmos – s/t will be released on Double-Vinyl, CD and Download via Erased Tapes on October 27th, 2014.

After ending their four year hiatus from the label with the fantastic "Beat Organ EP" earlier this summer, 16 Bit Lolitas aka Ariaan Olieroock and Peter Kriek are back with another huge three track EP.

Title track "Deep In My Soul", was an instant office favourite, and picked up it's first play live on BBC Radio 1 from none other than Pete Tong during his Essential Mix with Sasha at Privilege in Ibiza. Fusing their trademark melodic grooves with an infectious vocal loop, Ariaan and Peter deliver a real anthem - one as equally potent poolside as it is in the main room, as Tong and Sasha can testify.

Equally memorable second track "Premium Emo" takes a more leftfield approach, built around gliding guitars and soaring vocals over a breakbeat groove. First heard in their ABGT guest mix earlier this year, "Premium Emo" is yet another 16BL classic.

"Higher State" rounds off the EP in style, showcasing the deeper end of Ariaan and Peter's musical spectrum. Soulful, jazzy melodies make way for rolling low end grooves and energetic synths in an another complex gem.

This track was one I had recently revisited. Originally My friend "Garion" Recorded on a 12 string guitar and we were working on a dubstep beat together. I raised it to 85 bpm and converted it into a halftime track keeping the original psy dub elements and G's 12 string recording. Once I started I couldn't stop, it still keeps a cleaned up version of the analogue recording as well as the intended scale but I had some fun chopping n resampling it with the down pitched flute synth and retro futuristic arp it has become something I can enjoy differently and it tells another perspective of the same story. I hope you become as immersed in it as I have and please feel free to give feedback even if you think it sucks a fat one, much love Enjoy!

Logistics, one of Hospital Records’ most prolific artists, is back with his seventh studio album ‘Hologram’. Inspired by his travels to Hong-Kong and New Zealand, this universally admired drum & bass figure presents a vibrant 16-track collection soaked in his signature groove, soul and liquid-funk stylings.

Opening track ‘Lotus Flower’ sets a warm springtime tone with fluttering harp-like arpeggios and atmospheric pads. ‘Broken Light’ follows on from the success that singer/songwriter Thomas Oliver brought on Logistics’ collaborative LP with brother Nu:Tone. A sombre tone matched with melancholic lyrics bring a blissful beat to the album.

Keeping true to the craft, ‘Chant’ flips to Logistics’ jungle style with molten-hot flair. A powerful punch of expertly sliced breaks and vocal stabs are the ingredients for this dancefloor weapon.

It’s safe to say that this has been worth the wait. Although titled from the ever-growing illusion of the digital-age, ‘Hologram’ is an example of Logistics’ very real talent and is a welcomed addition to his impressive repertoire of drum & bass classics. Quantity, quality and a fierce musical character is everything we have come to expect from this Hospital staple.
