After a long hiatus finally a finished track, again.  I wanted something gritty.  Maybe not the best, but I think it's solid.

Grit

All sounds without external processing and solely from one Pulsar-23.  Just one lovely little machine.

Pulsar-23 and Modular recorded into a 1010 Bluebox.  No post editing.
Bassline, Kick and Hihat is from Pulsar running through a Mod Duo X.  Loquelic Iteritas via 100 Grit into Replicator with send to a Microcosm.  Sample from Morphagene via Flame Vocorder into Vult Freak into Mimeophon.  Some added percussion from a heavily modulated BIA via Viol Ruina and FX Aid.

Just a sketch, but I think it’s a nice groove.

Modular ambient track created with the setup shown.  Stochastic Inspiration Generator is sequencing a 4ms Ensemble Oscillator, MSW micro Plaits, and Qu-Bit Surface with lots of reverb from a Strymon Starlab and ALA Typhoon.  uPlaits is running through the Strymon Magneto for some dubs delays with lots of feedback at times.  I'm also using an Instruo Lubadh tape looper to sample the Starlab output to create some background atmosphere.  You hear it in the repetitive tidbits.  Hope you like it.

Acid Trip

The idea here was to have three 303 boxes elaborate on a theme and feed off each other.  I wanted the track to be slower, smooth and melodic.  As the track evolved, I thought that a more elaborate drum track would work well.  Except for the baseline, the instrumentation is almost identical to Acid Trip, but this is taking on a very different feel.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I had fun making it!

Liquid Dreams

After playing a lot with 303 clones (Abl3, mostly), I thought it would be nice to make a track relying mostly on oscillators.  That's what you have here.  
This is a remixed version of the prior version.  It now has more sparkle.  I upped the gain and did some work with EQ and compression.  I also fixed the outtro.  I like it a lot more and hope you do as well.

Crawling

I was playing with some sounds and came across a nice stab I liked and thought it might work well to create some funky elements. I was doing sound design for another project that I thought would fit in as well. It started with the synth motif the track closes with, which I intended to be the main synth initially. I then picked up the idea of using a 303 in a funk style. That's how I started playing with the background synth based on a 303 with reverb and echo. It has LFOs on all parameters of the  303 emulator to create some vibrato. There is a 303ish distorted baseline here, too. I copied the same note sequence over to the 303 and it sounded pretty good. It had me rearrange the whole track to focus on this 303 motif.

I also came across some Youtube videos on hip hop drumming and played with those motifs to program some classic hip-hop breaks. It then all fell together as the groove just somehow pulled it all together. It turned out to be a funky little piece of acid.

Just a slight variation on the previous edit to accentuate the mood.  I think this version brings out the somber notes better.  Also ends with a fitting vocal sample.

Lost In Sound UVB - 76 End Of The World Edit

I wanted to create a somber, yet calming ambiance with this track.  I was inspired by some of my favorite ambient artists, such as Pete Namlook, Klaus Schulze, and Wolfgang Voight (aka Gas) and hence I decided to confine myself to analog sounds.

What you hear is mostly done using U-He Diva and NI Monark. I also was quite taken by the capabilities of Output's new Exhale engine, which is great at generating some vocal layers and that's what was used to generate most of the vocal textures. 

Liquid Air - Levitation

I have been experimenting with the iPad as a tool for production for a while.  This track was created and mixed almost entirely on the iPad using Auria Pro.  The sound Textures were created from several samples using SoundScaper and Mobius.  The organ like pad was played in live on the iPad using Moog's fantastic Model 15 app and the bell sounds were created using TC-11, also played in live.  I have a draft version with percussion using iMaschine2, but I wanted a bit more texture to it, so that part was added using an imported AFF file from Auria into Logic and the draft percussion was imported to Maschine and I added to it.  Other than that I only processed the percussion parts and ran the final mix through a tinge of Ozone.  So, the iPad did get me 90% there and integrates nicely into this type of workflow.

Inspired by thoughts on randomness and quantum fluctuations, a little piece trying to capture the awesomeness of strange cosmic phenomena.  Fittingly, the generative sequencing capabilities of Numerology 4 feature prominently at the edges of the sound spectrum.

Disorientation

Come along for the ride as I explore new sounds.  I have been a long time fan of all types of electronic music and there have been tunes playing in my head for a very long time.  I finally decided to give them an outlet.  Here I share with you sounds that I find intriguing and music that gives expression to an aesthetic that speaks to me.  Be surprised as I venture into my inner sonic soundscape and post my own compositions or highlight other artists that inspire me.
