For this next remix, we flipped a classic cut from "21 and Over" and took it into Boombap / Dancehall territory - with a little homage to Biz Markie in there to push it over the top. E Swift's production on the original track was already top-notch, but we think there's just enough extra flavor here to keep the dancefloors heated / trunks rattling. Enjoy!

One of 3 edited and extended "mash-ups" from the Boombap Riddims mix CD that blend Hip-Hop beats and Dancehall acapellas exclusively from the 90s. Previously only available on the limited 12" single.

Boombap Riddims serves as a tribute to the early and mid 90s when breakbeat driven instrumentals provided the sonic backdrop of choice for a golden era in Dancehall music. The Boombap Riddim mix CD pays homage to some of the classics from the era alongside underheard gems and a few exclusive "mash-ups".

This re-edit, which kicks off one of my favorite mixtapes, is now the intro  to my radio show in ATL called "The Soul Chamber." on WRFG 89.3 FM. It's inspired by the sound and vibes of UK Soul super group, Silhouette Brown from their seminal self-titled debut album. I'd just come back from WMC in Miami and began working on a mixtape at the homie Dj Dug Boogie's studio  when I got a call from Stacy Epps.  She had just flown back from a trip to Japan and dropped by to catch up.  She heard me toying around with an interlude from an SB track I'd mashed-up with BT Express' "Do It 'Til You're Satisfied"  (BTW, this drum break is still one of the coldest not produced by James Brown). Stacy was feelin it and immediately started scatting and ad libbing. Within moments, we had lyrics.  She and stepped into the booth and made a little magic.

Dear Dilla, you shaped my perception for music in ways I can't describe in words. Music has always touched my heart, but your music moved my soul. You had a gift of making the most creative music using samples from the most unlikely sources. I'll never understand why someone like you, who could have given the world so much more, would be taken way so soon. Dilla, you "literally" changed lives and you probably saved lives too, because when you make music "straight from the heart," it's not just music anymore.

In November 2015, the Minneapolis duo Bones & Beeker—consisting of singer-songwriter Anthony Newes and producer/multi-instrumentalist BK-One—quietly released a self-titled gem of a debut. Hip-hop producer BK-One (aka Brendan Kelly) had previously spent years on the road as the touring DJ for Rhymesayers MC Brother Ali. So after releasing his own album, BK-One reached out to Ali and other friends to help craft a hip-hop EP out of source material from the Bones & Beeker record.

First onboard was DJ extraordinaire Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5), who is about to drop his own album, Die Cut, and is currently supporting it on a North American tour. On the “World Behind” remix, Cut Chemist channels turntable elders Double Dee & Steinski and offers a funky retake with massive, moving drums.

Minneapolis neighbor and Rhymesayers affiliated rapper P.O.S. steps up to drop a verse on the funky favorite “Each Time I Die.” P.O.S., a Doomtree Collective member, has just dropped his own album, Chill, Dummy, out now on Doomtree.

Minneapolis Afro-futurist collective ZULUZULUU—one of BK-One’s favorite bands—could be considered kindred spirits with Bones & Beeker, as both groups ditch convention and move to the beat of their own drums. ZULUZULUU takes on “Wind-Up Dolls” and starts from scratch, recording their own blissed-out take.

Acclaimed Rhymesayers rapper Brother Ali sprinkles the sauce on the fan-favorite track “Heartbroken in Love”—the original song was recently licensed for the Netflix series Easy.

Coming off his critically acclaimed album, 2017’s Brick Body Kids Still Daydream (Mello Music), Open Mike Eagle blesses the BK-One re-edit of “A Song for Al’s Dead Mother.” A Chicago native and friend of the Doomtree Collective, Open Mike Eagle now resides in Los Angeles as a member of Project Blowed.

Superblack has got the beats. Famed De La Soul producer Prince Paul, rapper/drummer J-Zone, and ego trip cofounder (and man-of-many-talents) Sacha Jenkins joined forces to mess around with music. They remix the B&B single “Lupine,” focusing on the raw drums that ground and move forward the art and culture that is hip-hop.
