This recording of a mixed chorus of the three species of 17-year cicadas features the wild songs of Magicicada septendecula. Apparently, this is the more rare species of the three.

An adult male White-eyed Vireo singing very pretty songs. Some of his songs are the most complex of any White-eyed Vireo I have heard. At the end of this recording, he sings rambling songs. These are typically sung to his mate when she is ready to lay an egg.

The last step in my process is taking the song components I can recognize by ear and adding them back into the Bobolink song.  I can easily recognize whose song I'm hearing.

3 Wood Thrush Singing

Now is the time of year when the woods are alive with chipmunks, busying themselves collecting beechnuts and acorns to cache in their burrows for the coming winter. Now is also a productive season for forest hawks, hoping to swoop down and snatch-up unwary chipmunks that are pre-occupied with gathering food. But what is most interesting for us nature-listeners is that chipmunks respond to hawk fly-bys with a special “aerial predator alarm call” … a hollow, resonant cluck … cluck … cluck … cluck … cluck … that is unmistakable.
