A Benefit Compilation for Homelessness in Los Angeles County from Pleasure of Love

Pleasure of Love presents a compilation of dance music to raise awareness and benefit the homelessness epidemic in Los Angeles County.  DJs, producers, and musicians from Los Angeles and around the world contributed tracks, hoping to shed light on the issue and provide a little relief over the winter holidays and beyond.

Artists included are Aimes (Wonder Stories), Wild & Free, Club Tularosa, JMMSTR, Ghosts of Venice, Turbotito, FSQ, Peter Croce (Rocksteady Disco), Ladymonix (Frizner Electric), Mojito Boys, Sacre Galaxie, DJ Duckcomb, Air Zaire, Dream Machines, Band of Misfits, Mix & Fairbanks, and Nala (London).

Homelessness in LA County surged over 75% in less than 6 years, as reported by the LA Times back in February, 2018.  Housing shortages, rising rents, and a slow response to help aid the homeless have created a complex and dangerous situation in LA’s notorious skid row and beyond.  In an effort to best utilize the funds we generate from this benefit, we’ll be donating specifically to Downtown Women’s Center in LA.  Per the shelter’s website-

“The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is the only organization in Los Angeles focused exclusively on serving and empowering women experiencing homelessness and formerly homeless women.
We envision a Los Angeles with every woman housed and on a path to personal stability. Our mission is to end homelessness for women in greater Los Angeles through housing, wellness, and advocacy.”

About Pleasure of Love-
Pleasure of Love is a weekly disco, house, and international funk flavored party in Hollywood, CA.  On its 2nd year, the party has had guests from around the world play alongside founder Dino Soccio, focusing on underground house and disco in the small basement club Dirty Laundry.  A small cult following led to the launch of a vinyl only imprint in 2018.  The label is currently working on its 4th release slated for January 2019.

Since its original release on the Astralwerks album Invisible Airline in 2001, the Q-Burns Abstract Message song "Innocent," featuring the vocals of Lisa Shaw, has seen many reappearances and remixes. The first mixes by King Britt and Lovesky released as part of the Re-Routed collection on Eighth Dimension were soon followed by stunning reworks from Joey Negro and Magik Johnson for Britain's NRK label.

Years later, Eighth Dimension was contacted by House Arrest label impresario Cole Medina requesting to revisit this track, one of his favorites, for an even newer remix. Being a big fan of Medina's excellent work, which includes his top notch remix of Sleazy McQueen's "Anna Due" and his many sought after re-edits, the label promptly handed over the "Innocent" parts anxious to hear the result. Cole Medina did not disappoint at all: he promptly delivered three completely different, fantastic remixes of "Innocent."

The first of Medina's mixes is the Nue Boogie Mix with its soulful, low-slung disco funk. Dramatic percussion and an unrelenting keyboard riff play against Lisa Shaw's expressive vocal providing a dose of ear-pleasing musical tension. Cole's Bottom Heavy Tunnel Mix increases the tempo with a late night club-ready house mix. Over the insistent four-on-the-floor rhythm a healthy wash of reverb is applied to Lisa's vocals giving this one a decidedly big room feel. The delicately sparse arrangement is tailor made for booming in an after-hours warehouse. Finally, Cole turns a total 180 with his Why Love Sucks Mix, a downtempo treatment comfortably placing the song in Portishead territory. Lisa Shaw suddenly takes the role of chanteuse as cabaret piano and emotive strings hover over the plodding, trip hop beats.

Cole Medina's return to "Innocent" precedes future singles and projects from Q-Burns Abstract Message including the upcoming "Dark Roots" and the mysterious "Balearic Chainsaw." Keeps ears locked on Eighth Dimension for more exciting sounds to come.

Since the late 90's, Spiritchaser have remained consistent as one of dance music's leading partnerships. They have not only embraced the changing face of the music industry but also played a part in the shaping of modern house music with their unique style and combination of song and sound.

In 2005, their spiritual home Guess Records was launched and a new chapter was underway. Sister label to the successful Duffnote and One51 imprints, Guess provided a new platform for them to fine-tune their musical aspirations and the Spiritchaser sound. Their debut album "1440" introduced the beginnings of a collaboration with vocalist Emily Cook and Daniel Jones (Est8) which in 2011, took South Africa by storm with the smash hit "These Tears" topping the charts for 9 weeks and continued for some 38 weeks in the Media Guide top 10. This partnership further resulted in the album "Tears in the rain" which was released in South Africa in 2012. 

"Chronos" encapsulates the years passed and present and with a combination of some old favourites, exclusive new material, un-released mixes and re-edits giving the concept of a "best of" album a real twist. 

"It's been almost 14 years since we lay the first note down on our first project and what a journey it's been so far.
